Track Car Insurance
I'm starting to look into insurance options for my track car for use when not at a track, but something that'll at least allow me to drive the track periodically. Seems nobody really offers much unless its a collector car. What do others use for their street legal cars that aren't used on the road unless driven to the track?
If anyone has found a good option, I'd love to hear about it. I'm guessing this car would be driven to the track 6-8 times/year, and maybe an occasional cruise around town.

I started using HPDE insurance by Lockton. Its easy and I thing pretty cost effective. The have single and multiple events. It is separate from your standard insurance company policy.
You pick your value - events package - get the cost and use your cc.
Singles run somewhere around 175. up per event depending on the coverage you pick.
I decided on a multiple package of 9 events ( even though we only have 8 )
My cost is $1170. divided by 8 = $143. each event. It does not include any Time Trials and there is a 10% deductible. Less if you have a higher deductable.
PM me if you need further information.

Re: Track Car Insurance
Grundy wouldn't even talk to me after I mentioned insurance until I got to the track - guess I'll not mention that in the future.....

Re: Track Car Insurance
that's funny because my VW that is all airbrushed I have grundy now and they said I'm covered as long as it's not a timed event .
I have had them for years now and switch from hagerty because they will not cover cars that go to the track for DE .
I did just have a problem with progressive because of my Miata . they wanted to drop my coverage on all my cars because I take the Miata to the track . I went back and forth with them for 6 weeks on how DE is not racing . I got them paper work on other clubs to show it not times at all and they were ok this it then and did not drop me and did cover the Miata .
you do have to explain to the agent at times because they think if your on a track your ball to the walls . you have to put it as your in car control and it's a good thing because your becoming a better driver by knowing how the dynamics of a your car works to keep you out of trouble .
that's when it became ok as long as there is no timing going on .

Re: Track Car Insurance
Since I didn't speak to them with any details I may call them again and just tell them its a hobby car that I want to make sure is insured to an agreed value. That's mainly what I'm interested in having. I'm not all that worried about something happening on the track (that's why I rebuilt a wrecked car), but if it gets into an accident on the way to somewhere, I'd like to make sure its covered.

Re: Track Car Insurance
grundy for me is a good CO to deal with . between my insurance thru them for not just the VW but other exotic cars I have owned over the years but even dealing with them on customers cars I have had in my shop .
hagerty not so much . I did not like them they cancelled my renewal when they found out I do DE events with the VW and they such to deal with when I have a customers car in my shop .
I had a customers 1934 all steel ford coupe in my shop the customer want a real steel ford fender and they only wanted to pay for a aftermarket one . the difference between the two was not the way the out side stamping was but the stamping were it bolts to the body was different . I ended up finding a ford fender out west and they paid for it but they would not pay for any body work on the fender . of course it being a 1934 steel fender it did need some work .

Re: Track Car Insurance
I used the Grundy online quote and it gave an annual rate of $130 - that seems impossible.

Re: Track Car Insurance
with collector car insurance if it falls into a low risk car the cost is not very high .
the Ferrari I owned was cheap at 260 a year . the VW as there was so much done to the car the I have a 19A policy on the car . I have a total of receipts adding up to over 87 K just in plastic clips to hold fuel , brake lines was 200 dollars at all adds up real quick . full race suspension I made custom built control arms with metallic bearings for the suspension pickup points the suspension alone was 12K . 2.slow race motor 11K . full race trans 8K .
you have to have all your ducks in a row .
I bought my VW GTI new back in 1987 it has never had a spot of rust on the car so it could never be replaced .
I will take it to the track but as comscc times your laps I do not take it to comscc events . I did take it to one but took it very ez as if any thing happened it would not be covered . I will take it to other club events as long as they are not timing car .
the insurance for the VW is 580 a year .
they do not want me to drive it to work but as my work is were I will also service the car I changed the place it's stored to the business address . again grundy will work with you as hagerdy will not .
hagerdy was charging me 1100 a year and I could not take my own car to my own shop to service it .
I have 6 cars insured so the VW is far from a primary car . I also have my porachs 951 , 968 , 944 insured with grundy they are also very cheap to insure . they because of being totally stock and non primary cars only cost 180 a year each . I do not have as much coverage as the VW for them but they are still policy 19a cars .
