Only clockwise for racing (same direction as in the video). There was no direction when I arrived so people just drove onto the track and cruised around to check it out. Nice to be able to go anywhere without getting bitched at by track staff. This place is going to do very well given their current attitude and future plans. They seem laid back and open to constructive suggestions at this current phase of construction.

..."open to constructive suggestions".... Bank one of those turns 30 degrees... One of my favorite turns is the carousel at Shenandoah.

Hey Mark, there is one there already, we just need them to let us use their turn 3-4 oval.

I ran this past Friday and Saturday of the three day SCCA "Soft Opening" at Thompson with my Formula E. Jeff W. was there too. They have put a lot of money into a great facility and provided excellent customer service to us all. The track is fun but suffers from some of the compromises of integrating with the old oval and the limited land available for the road course. It is 1.7 miles but there are some very tight corners, on is 160 degree turn around a cone. There is a good long straight that ends with a very slow 90 degree turn. I found I was using second gear (out of 5) for half the course.

Although they have no showers and no power for RVs and extremely expensive small garages, the have a great clubhouse shared with the golf course a short walk away and an Ice cream shop. The club house has an attached large banquet hall that was holding a wedding reception Saturday night as we were in the bar.

Hi Bruce how are the transitions from the road course to the oval track ? Do you think my Chevron would hit its front wings ? Is the surface very smooth ?

According to the Thompson Calendar we have the track from 12 noon to 7pm on Sunday July 27th. Do we know what will the schedule actually will be?

The transitions are an issue. Not because there are bumps and I do not think you will hit. More that there is an abrupt small camber change and the Oval pavement is older, a little less grip and a little bumpy. All the new track pavement is great, with good "turtles" on apexes. there were also bad living turtles crossing between two swamps at turns 10-12. Jeremy took a small one out. There was one twenty inch diameter one!

There are two more transitions in the oval: they don't let us use the banked (29 degrees) oval, but have paved a flat 180 turn in the infield below the oval yellow line. This means coming off the old oval pavement onto the new flat turn and back again.

And CT does not allow racing before noon on Sunday! Shades of Lime Rock.

I was wondering about the 12 oclock start and forgot about the law. It must be one of the blue laws from 1700 hundreds when the puritons settled in the area. No pig racing before noon and it carried over to motorized vehicles. maybe it could be changes if we all drove electic cars
