Everyone have a safe drive home? My trip back was uneventful, the way we like it.

I saw more deer on the track than I did on the highway. At one point coming into turn 8 I had to stop and wait for a family of deer to cross the track, 2 adults and 3 offspring. A couple of laps later I almost hit one of the little ones as it was running across the pavement just past the track out of turn 8. If it hadn't gotten spooked and turned back I would have nailed it @ ~80mph. Could have been ugly. (I'm kicking myself for not having the camera in my car)

All and all it was a great event. Big thanks to all those working behind the scenes to make it happen. :thumbright:

Glad to hear you made it home safely. I also got back just fine after a truly awesome trip!

Many thanks to COM and everyone involved, and in particular the 'the 'sliders'

Heres my question though, and please bear in mind I am an animal lover..... Tremblant has a 10' high fence all the way around it right. WTF would anyone in thier right mind let a herd of dear live inside the fenced in circuit?

WTF dont they just shoot them and have a cookout!

Its bad enough coming throught turn 7 at 100+ MPH worrying if you are going to manage to keep 4 wheels on the track, without meeting a herd of deer at the same time.

Is it just me or is this RETARDED!!! Je' nes pa comprende'

Champ Car driver Cristiano da Matta needed surgery to remove a ruptured blood vessel in his head after his race car collided with a deer that wandered onto the track during a test session at Road America yesterday.

Da Matta was unconscious when he was airlifted to Theda Clark Memorial Hospital in Neenah after the crash and remained unconscious as of last night, Champ Car series spokesman Steve Shunck said.

Champ Car Director of Medical Affairs Dr. Chris Pinderski said a CAT scan at the hospital showed da Matta had a subdural hematoma.

"He was urgently taken to the operating room for surgical removal of the hematoma and is now being observed in the intensive care unit," Pinderski said.

The RuSport team said updates concerning da Matta's condition will be released when they become available.

The 32-year-old Da Matta has 12 career Champ Car victories -- including four straight wins in his championship season of 2002, tying a series record.

A native of Brazil, da Matta left Champ Car after winning the championship and drove for the Toyota team in the elite Formula One series in 2003 and 2004. In 28 starts, he finished a career-best sixth in three races.

Da Matta returned to Champ Car last year to win a race at Portland and tie for 11th in the standings. He is sixth in the standings this season.

I too was forced to pick my way through the herd on track. My car doesn't have a horn, so whomever was in the silver, convertible miata, a big thanks. I have proof that deer don't fear a revving miata engine!

We heard about deer (no pun intended!) all weekend, but I never saw one. Until the time trial at least. Just as the starter was about to send me out, he gave me the warning, "there are reports of deer between 7 and 8". PERFECT! Thanks for telling me!

Warm-up and first lap were uneventful. Saw a deer on the 2nd lap which gave me a moment of pause. Approaching the apex of 7 I was more focused on deer than I should have been, and a brain-fart later, I found myself sliding perpendicular to the track along the rumble strips at the exit of 7. Although I didn't see a deer at that point, I swear I could hear a whole herd of them giggling and yelling out "both feet in, you fool!".

I missed the trophy ceremony, but have been told that Dan mentioned I had the best line through 8 out of anyone in the time trial. Glad I could at least make of a show of it!

Anyone interested in a set of fairly new tires? Only worn in one spot!

I was down at Summit Point this past weekend for the Redline Time Attack, and almost hit a deer on the back straight on the Shannendoah(sic) track.

They really don't care about the engine noise.

That was me, Andrew. That was the second time I came around Turn 8 and found a whole crowd of deer crossing the track! The same thing happened a few minutes earlier, but the second time I decided to lay on the horn to hopefully get them to move along. Didn't see them again after that, so maybe it worked.

Scary, especially after reading about what happened to Cristiano da Matta.

I had no idea that we had any deer sightings during the event. That would be no fun at all.

I stopped off of 91 for a bit and was greeted by a family of turkeys walking through side of the road. That's about the extent of the wildlife that I saw.

I also had a close encounter with two deer at the exit of turn 8 during my last time trial lap in Raj's STI!!! If it wasn't for the deer, I would have beat Raj! That is my story and I am sticking to it! By the way, the deer was thiiiiisssss big.

Have to publically thank Raj for his generosity in letting me drive his car, after my heap of metal had stage fright. Thanks again Raj. You are the best!!

Joel, sounds like you got the Tremblant sacre-BLUES like I did last year. What happened- or is the wound too fresh to talk about it?
