Am I completely surounded by this Miata epidemic. Tom comon It really hurts when the Mustang guys start to fall. I saw Scott Bleweiss (former COM instructor) at the SCCA enduro Sat. and he was running a Miata...he was always a Mustang guy. Pretty soon I'll be sitting by myself at the COM dinners. I need to go wash my hands- I typed Miata too many times.

Were you wearing 'protection' when you were instructing in Tina's Miata at Mt. Tremblant? If not, you could have caught Miata fever.
miata mania..

Don't worry, the Mustang is still number 1, although if I can't get the new track Mustang I'm still building able to compete with you and Mario in SPA I might have to re-evaluate...

Right brain was screaming for a motorcycle, Left brain kept reading newspaper stories about crashed or flattened-by-moron-drivers motorcycles.

Compromised with a 2-door motorcycle that Deb can drive (and will ride in) and the price was right.

It's a blast to drive, I can see why they're so many at the track...
1 less COMer mustang owner

Post by jlwhorf » Thu Sep 01, 2005 7:45 am

After being a Mustang owner for about 23 years, I just sold my old fastback. Although I don't see myself running out and buying a Miata with the money.
This is all music to my ears vroom vroom not zoom zoom. Tom I can't beat you or Mario without a tranny...it's nothing $ won't solve- but I can't see paying several hundred dollars for a used trans. A Tremec TKO for $2000 will be the answer next year. For this season it's going to be a 4 cyl. trans. and bring a spare to the track.

Scott

p.s. No, Mario there will be no free points in the last 3 events even if it means riding by kids tricycle

I do not expect on being ready this year, but I am using the money to building a new motor. I have been working on my barn since the Glen, and have not yet touched the car its self.

The short block is being done at R&L in Dover. Most likely use a Dart aluminum head top end component kit along with a dry sump oiling system. I used my collection of exotic stuff for the new mill, Manley Pro series billet crank, Carrillo rods, 350 block with billet caps, weaver 4 stage pump etc. I building this motor to run on pump gas too.

Tom, it was kind of a spur of the moment thing putting the car on ebay.
Does this mean you won't be at Sept. NHIS event ? Who else will I get to do my timing --- not one of the 4 cylinder crowd (Mazda-Subaru).
I went to WGI on Aug. 29 & 30 th with NEQ Club (Audi), there was only 1 Miata (zoom-zoom) and just 2 WRXs. I was the only Mustang-- felt like a black man at a Klu Klux Klan rally. Not many of the other drivers wanted to talk to me until they saw how fast the Mustang went abd how great it sounded compared to their cars. In Com I am in the bottom 1/3 as far as times go-- at NEQ I was one of the fastest top 4 cars. What a great ego builder. Well anyway I hope to see all of you at NHIS-- and to Scott I will be bringing the Mustang.
Zoom-Zoom Live was a blast! The new Miata is a ton of fun, and the RX-8 is superb. I was very impressed with how well the event was run, how friendly the staff was, and how the participants were strongly encouraged to really drive the cars. I'll bet they got a lot of new customers on Saturday.
Glad it was a fun time, Christine. I blew it off, spent the day at the NHIS Cheap Date instead. Figured I can stop by the Mazda dealer for a free ride in a few months, but how many chances will I get to see Scott driving a Porsche?

Only stayed for Saturday, but I think the COM drivers present did pretty well.
Tom don't let the bullsh.t SCCA politics stop you from trying your hand at it. It certainly does test your skills at a whole different level...Especially in those IT races...you never know which way they are going to turn.
I may still be calling you on that T5...put the other one in today...second gear syncro is gone...argggg.
