Hotel for the ride back from Calabogie
Hotel for the ride back from Calabogie
I'm all set for the Fri, Sat, Sun, but thinking after 3 days on track probably not a good idea to he-man the 8 hour drive back Monday night. Anyone got a suggestion for a hotel halfway home ( about St. Albans/Burlington) that can take a trailer is secure enough to leave the tires in the bed of the truck? Thanks

The Edge Hotel is south of there. I think that may be my plan.

Re: Hotel for the ride back from Calabogie
On a Thursday night in 2011, I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express three miles off I-89 at exit 13 in South Burlington (http://www.hiexpressburlington.com/). I had tires and other stuff in the truck bed, and it was all still there in the morning. There was plenty of room for the trailer, and I didn't have to unhook. IIRC, the breakfast was enough to get me on the road. Burlington's not cheap, though, so you might find better value somewhere outside town.

If you're taking the Montreal/Burlington route home there's a Best Western in Waterbury that's decent. They don't have a huge parking area but I had no problem fitting my SUV and 16ft open trailer there.
Best Western Plus - Waterbury-Stowe

I would recommend taking the other route though. Head south from Calabogie into NY and get to 81 S, then head south east on RT 12 at Watertown NY.
Along Route 12 there is a great place to stop called The Edge Hotel in Lyons falls.

I'm sure lots of COM'ers will be there on Mon night.

Is anyone planning on driving all the way back Monday night? I'll do it with company, otherwise I think the Edge Hotel looks like a nice option.

Derek, a few NE-SVT guys are planning on headed all the way home. Not sure how many are with car in tow though.
Tom, I was planning on the EDGE with Troy for Mon night.

Thanks guys
It's an extra hour per googlemap to take the Watertown route vs. 89 from my house - what makes it that much better?

You bypass Montreal and Ottawa. Depending on what time you hit Montreal 1 hour actually moving could be a time saver.dinoracer wrote:Thanks guys

Ottawa's an hour away, so you might hit the tail end of rush-hour traffic if you leave Calabogie at the end of the day. You can always drop down and bypass the city to the south (say, on highway 8 ) if you think rush-hour's going to slow you down. For Montreal, you'll reach the 40/30 split about 75 minutes after you leave Ottawa, and can skirt the city to the south on 30.

Re: Hotel for the ride back from Calabogie
I intend to drive back Monday night. I will go down the 416 and cross at Ogdensburg then across the top of NY to 89. Its about 30 minutes longer that going through Ottawa and Montreal but will avoid the traffic of both cities. The NY portion was mostly good last year when I went to Mosport.
Re: Hotel for the ride back from Calabogie
I plan to head back on Monday after the TT - The planned route I will use is from Marco Swinehart Polo. The great navigator I read about in my history books. It is Rt 417 to 30 to 15 to 87 to 11 to 78 to 89 to 93 to 128 to home. Its by passes Ottawa and Montreal.
