Watkins Glen 2012 pics and videos

Post by wizzman » Wed Sep 12, 2012 3:54 pm

First time I have ever filmed a time trial:

2:47- Lap 1 start (2:23.305)
4:01- Squirrel
5:11- Lap 2 start (2:22.685)
7:33- Lap 3 start (2:21.991)

I also want to give a big thanks to Fred for helping me figure out this track. He helped me shave 4 seconds from one session to the next!

This is a Group 2 afternoon practice session on Monday. If you were in Group 2 you probably show up at some point in this video. Go to the youtube page for time stamps for Tom C. and Peter F.

And track record! Smooth and tidy from what I could see. That squirrel has no idea how lucky he was.

Damn GoPro camera mounts suck, can't hear your engine RPM half the time through the rattle. Makes me want to upgrade to the Hero2 just so I can use an external mic.

Was that a minivan or SUV at the start of your 2nd video? Someone get lost on the way to the mall?

LMAO @ the squirrel. Dave, it's a good thing you drive a Miata. Any other car would have already been scrubbing the squirrel guts off in the toe of the boot hahahaha.

But seriously, nice driving. Lines look good, especially in the bus stop. Mine will be up tonight. I still am a little PO'd about my time since my Aim was nearly 2 tenths faster than what the transponder got me at on my fastest lap. Nobody else seemed to have that discrepancy though.

Ignore the data from the out lap, I don't know what I'm doing wrong but it never lines up with the 3 hot laps.

Nice video Dave, and congrats on the class win.

Seeing you catch me in 9, and doing the track walk with Rachel where she pointed out the correct line in 9, was a big help that evening for my second day's times.

That car has some serious hp to pull 151mph into the bus stop. Nice laps!

Driving hard Chad, I like it! I wasn't happy that their was a cone in the trackout of 10. It sort of made me stray away from fully tracking out and probabaly cost me a bit of time there, but it was there for everyone so no complaints.

I am fairly happy with how I drove in the time trial. It's amazing how much slower my videos look now that my car has a subframe that is fully seated to the body and is handling properly. I drove the piss out of my car in this video and it doesn't even look like it. I think it was the hardest i've pushed myself and the car.

Nice driving Nick, it looks like you pulled off some clean hard laps in your car. Beating Greg's time must feel great, sorry I had to show up with the gun to a knife fight. :)

Chad, you are just following the rules, and are well within them. What's funny is your car could be so much better and still fall into SPB. I am all for a new classification system and I think a lot of others are too.

One thing I did appreciate is the fact it pushed me. I probabaly would not have run this fast if you were not there.

Ya it feels good to say I finally beat Greg's time. To be fair though, it would have been a lot lower if he knew the track better. That car with the built motor was very capable of 2:07's or better when handling properly.

I talked to him on the drive home from the Glen, he wanted to congratulate you, Nick Fontana, and myself for running those times. He says he hasen't been able to get on the forum for some reason lately. Hopefully he figures it out.

Great photo's Rebecca!
I thought it would be fun to see how a few cars compare from a data standpoint. I got the data from Dave W. in his Miata and Nick D. in his M3 and put my own data from my STi into one AIM test and this is what we ended up with. Please watch it in 1080 so that you can read it.
