trying to understand 1995 R package

Hi,
I have been trying to figure out what parts I can install and stay SS instead of ST (exploring the idea of doing this initially). Here is a summar of what I have found:

The R package was a $1500 option package and not a special model

Equipment: Sport Suspension (Bilstein shocks, heavy-duty rear springs, heavier sway bars), rear spoiler, front air dam, rear skirt, alloy wheels, Torsen limited slip differential The R package was not available with power steering, automatic transmission or Popular Equipment and Leather option packages

Optional: air conditioning, hardtop (dealer installed only)

Production: 465

It appears that the main difference for me would be the heavier froint anti-sway bar, heavier duty rear springs (and I think tha that the spring perches are different - lowered). I already have torsten lds. I have read that cars that already have the torsten already have a heavier rear anti-sway bar (I already have it).

Can someone explain to me why only the R package rear springs were heavier duty (front ones are the same spring rate). I would have expected the front to be heavier? It seems that they wanted to loosten up the rear compared to stock (for autocross?).
