proper fuel cell installation

Hi,
I am installing an ATL 8 gal FIA FT-3 fuel cell in my MG Midget. The vent on it is valved. A vent hose will pass the vent outside the car. I am expecting that if I cut a hole in the trunk above the location where the stock tank was, and reinforce the edges of this new hole I will have an appropriate mounting location. The tank would have a structural collar that would elevate the tank to a height in the trunk that will make the bottom of the tank at least 6 inches above the ground (it would not be the lowest part of the car). A couple of 2 inch straps would also support the tank. The original vinyl and cardboard divider that separated the trunk area from the cabin part of the car will be replaced with one made out of aluminum (it will fit well so it is sealed).

Here is a question:
Do most clubs (including COM) expect some additional extra protection to be installed around the fuel cell? The installation instructions describe the method above but alternately they show a design that includes a sort of tubular cage providing additional projection around the fuel cell. I don't have a lot of room (or capacity to add even more weight) so I don't want to do this unless it is something that tech inspectors like to see for a small car like this.
My plan above fits the rules for SVRA (vintage racing club rules that I am using for this build). However, I would like to know if this plan is acceptable for COM (and other clubs that I might drive with).

I am hoping to make this decision today.
