Cool Suit Mounting
Cool Suit Mounting
Not much space in the Miata, so I'm pondering mounting the Cool Suit feed unit in the trunk, running the hoses through the firewall to the cockpit.
Does this create a "breach the firewall" issue?
Thanks,
JB

No idea, but I don't think so.6PAK72 wrote:Not much space in the Miata, so I'm pondering mounting the Cool Suit feed unit in the trunk, running the hoses through the firewall to the cockpit.

That said, why mount it in the trunk? Tie it down in the passenger seat securely. Should fit perfect, unless you have a tiny passenger seat. The system should come in and out very easily - mine does. If you are worried about water leaking onto the passenger seat, you've got a problem - the system shouldn't leak at all. If it does leak and you remove it to make room for a passenger, who cares! They'll probably wet themselves after your first spin anyway.

Re: Cool Suit Mounting
you will be fine with it in the trunk as you know use rubber grommets thru the bulk head . like will stated you should mount it in the car. my diasio and the 944 its on the passanger floor . its best to put it there for a cupple of reasons . one is that the longer the hose is the more time the water has to heat up before it gets to you . the other is you don't really want the weight high in the car and in the back . not that it will realy do any thing to the handling of the car but every little bit of weight you can set low and to the center of the car the better off you are . one other thing . my cool suit crapped out twice on me over the years so i try not to rely on it to much any more . when they stop working you will cook . AND I MIEN COOK !
Re: Cool Suit Mounting
@ Will, it's usually the second spin
Thanks for the input. I can fit it in the passenger well - it's pretty tight fit.

Re: Cool Suit Mounting
The trunk area gets pretty hot with the exhaust/muffler under it. I don't know much about the cool suit containers but assume it is just a big cooler; which should work more effectively if the air surrounding it is cooler vs. hotter. How big is the "cooler", is it something you could fab a mount for where the glove box/air bag goes in the dash?

about the size of a large 6 pack cooler. too large for the dash, squeezes into the set pan and the footwell area tightly.

Re: Cool Suit Mounting
All the "no flow" issues that I've had with my cool suit over the last 3 years is always traced back to the hose connections. There's something in the hose ends that needs to open when it is connected to either the cooler or the shirt. Mine usually has issues on the shirt side. Sometimes I can go a few months with it working fine and other times it needs attention every time I hook it up. This has happened with two different shifts (I'm using the hoodie this season). Wetting the rubber o-rings on the hose ends helps when connecting everything. I fill a gallon freezer bag with ice and loop two rubber bands around it to prevent both the bag and the ice from clogging the pump inlet. Then add just enough water to float the bag of ice.

We've used our cool shirts a lot over the years, and never had any problems. Mounted originally in the trunk, lately in the passenger seat area.
