1991 Miata Compress test numbers?

Post by jeffreystrong » Thu Apr 13, 2006 8:10 am

Shopping a 1991 Miata tonight, and plan on compression testing the engine. What numbers should I be looking for?

Thanks,
Jeffrey

With a warm engine anything over 170 is o.k... They should all be pretty close to each other. # 3 is the problem one.

Numbers were good...

Front to back.
#1 200
#2 195
#3 200
#4 200

But sitting 30' from the ocean for 3+ years, parked on gravel and stone have just not been kind to this Miata.

The needed parts list was just to long for me.

Rotors
Calipers/Pads
Battery
Tires
Upper and Lower control Arms (all corners)
Shocks and springs (all corners)
Swaybars

Rust through where the A pillar/fender/upper door hinge meet on the drivers side.

Unable to inspect the passenger door sill. The passenger door will not open, locking mechanism jammed.

Rust on the control arms, sway bars and their mounting points was heavy, and concerning. I was unable to move the vehicle to solid ground to jack it and look underneath. Front rotors are rusted frozen, and the suspension sags to the point that the oil pan and transmission might be resting on the ground.

Asked if the seller would sell the hardtop separetely. I am awaiting his price.

O'well the search continues...
