Subaru Wicked Big Meet

Hello All COMer's...

Well, since I'm a member of COM and races a Subaru STI, just a thought that how come COM does not have a interest in attending the Wicked Big Meet? It's one of the biggest gathering of any car clubs and there are many people in the Subaru community that are interested in track days as well and I'm sure they can sign up new members at the meet. Could it be the fees that WBM asks for are bit too much for COM? Or just COM have no interest in attending this type of show?

Anyways, if COM does have interest in WBM, I will be glad to volunteer to work in COM booth and I'll bring my race ready Subaru STI for showing.

Any thoughts on this subject?

I don't think anyone is opposed to it. It just isn't something that has been proposed.
We're a member run club. If you think COM should be at WBM put together a proposal and offer to organize it.

I wouldn't mind to propose but I have never ran a booth at a show/meet before and I would be glad to put some effort to expend COM to get more people to join our club. If anyone here at COM can help me to put this together, please get in touch with me to see if we can put in a proposal.

As I recall, we did a booth and a "free day" giveaway to WBM a few years ago, when Alex was president. I think it worked out well, though I can't say for sure how many Subie owners in the club now came from that exposure. Most of the Subie gang from the era seems to have moved on to other things. I bet we'd be successful if it was run again the same way, especially since the target audience is likely driving cars old enough now to be owned free and clear and thus not as expensive to bend as they were 5 years ago...

$450 sounds a little steep for a non-profit car club. I note that last year there were NO car clubs. But DentSport was there. Maybe we can work a deal with them. put a poster and rep in their booth. Or maybe share costs for a bigger booth.

That was my initial reaction too (a bit costly for COM) but it can generate value to the club if we can sign up 4-5 members and promote COM before a large number of Subie car enthusiasts.

At first I would also though it was a bit expensive for non-profit but for the amount of people that will be attending the event in which should be close to a thousand and the exposure that COM will get, I believe that to get 4-5 people to sign up as members of COM would be less then 1%.

Less then 1% to compare to a thousand is a pretty small number that I believe we can achieve. I usually browse through NASIOC and I happen to see few people that are interested in track days but I think that all they need is some one to convince them before they pull the trigger is in order.

I think sharing the booth with either DSG or Driver's Supply is a good idea to share the cost and we can also have few more show car to display!!!

Hey Mug, Chat with me, If you ask Sam I helped pull in 3 people which then pulled in 5 at the first track day ( Monticello) from Mazda forums, I'm willing to lend a hand since I am driving a new car 08subaru STI and will be at WBM .The only way i see this as being a profitable experience is if Mug you can talk to to Bert Schmitz he has video's of his runs that are compiled and show his in car stats from G's to braking, to speed and tach.... IMO we as an organization looked great just like synaptic3 who had a booth that day , When COM was down at North East Exotic show in Merrimack NH we raised i want to say over 500.00 someone correct me if i'm wrong but the event was to help Make a wish foundation, and I will say that having a dontation to that organization makes this organization stand out. Hope to see COM at WBM If Rally teams are going to be there so should COM ( I hear Tanner Foust is bringing his sweedish pit crew )

Don't forget lifetime value...not just one time membership fees.

Once upon a time you got Peter Fontana to sign up...he looped in me, my cousin, my uncle, and my sisters. I looped in Dave Lemoine and Adam Markey. This year, I might even have another GT Academy competitor come run with COM. That's probably $10k+ for COM all starting from my dad a while back. If you got ONE member like that, the ROI is 20x or more.

I have the club display, dvd player, monitor, etc. It is availble right after the NHMS Fan Appereciation day, April 23. I would so like to get it out of my cellar!

I fall into this category and am one of the lucky owners who won a free day. Did my school day in my Scion tC at the time, and have switched to a Miata after that for the sole purpose of doing more COM events. Life has just got in the way somewhat and I haven't been able to do as many as I'd like. Hoping that will change this year.

I have been a NESIC/NASIOC member since 1999 (member #437 I think). I'm a pretty close friend of someone involved with the WBM (I should say I think he is working on it again this year); and if there is anything I can do to help you guys out let me know. I'm not sure I'll be able to attend the event this year unfortunately.
