I'm pumped to go back to Mosport. Its a fantastic track, for those who haven't been.
The only negatives are the travel distance, and the fact that the track is in the middle of no where...

Re: 2011 Schedule?
I'll throw in my plea: Weekend dates. With travel time, that schedule already takes up 12 vacation days to make all the events.

Also - not sure if anyone else is an iRacing fan, but the entire 2011 COMSCC schedule thus far is at tracks included in iRacing (NHMS, WGI, Mosport). If we go back to NJMP, this will still hold true as iRacing is adding NJMP shortly.
As soon as I heard about Mosport on the schedule, I downloaded the track - it's awesome fun in the simulator with the mx5 and Mustang. I can't wait to get there in "real life" next May.

Re: 2011 Schedule?
Most tracks charge a premium for weekend dates – if rental days are even available on a given weekend. This premium is sometimes 150% of the normal weekday fee.
I would say the BOD always attempts to book weekend events but has to work within a budget and an availability schedule.

Re: 2011 Schedule?
That is a fantastic start to the 2011 schedule. WGI and Mosport will certainly pull me away from work for those great away events. Thanks to the BOD for the efforts. I can't remember so many confirmed dates this far in advance.

Re: 2011 Schedule?
Just a couple of comments:
1. When is it the business of a non-member ( for at least the last 3 years no memberships fees to support the club) what this hard working crew does?
2. Thanks Mark, for pointing out the reason for dates being what they are. Considering the losses at Mont-Tremblant and NJMS, the BOD is being VERY fiscally conservative. Now, if 75-80 peeps would signup in advance for some of these away events (and not cancel last minute due to the weather forecast), maybe the club could again visit some of our favorites.
3. Anyone who missed NJMP in the rain missed a GREAT opportunity to hone their skills. Just a great track for a rainy day. LOTS of run off room and lakes!

What a crazy day in the rain, and totally worth it. It was my first day back in the 325i, and what better way to learn the car (and track...kind of).chaos4NH wrote: 3. We got 5 hours of track time, no exaggeration. Day 1 we had 5 30+ minute sessions in the rain. Day 2 we got 3 practice sessions totaling almost 90 minutes and about an hour of open track after the TT. It was ridiculous.

Re: 2011 Schedule?
Ok I just wanted to ask what happened to our mid April season opener at NHMS? Do we not hold it any longer because the track will not open that early or can we just not get the dates? I don't know about everyone else but by March 1st I am going out of my mind ready to get back on the track.
I would also vote to go back to NJMP(Thunderbolt) again what a first rate track I truly enjoyed myself
Have a great winter all

Re: 2011 Schedule?
The early April time slot at NHMS was always a crap shoot with the weather, so the BOD decided to put the first event either in late April or early May. NJMP was a huge loss which puts the return in questionable status.

Re: 2011 Schedule?
Thanks for the clarification. I guess a couple questions from a member not "in the know" about track costs (for my own curiosity):jlwhorf wrote:The early April time slot at NHMS was always a crap shoot with the weather, so the BOD decided to put the first event either in late April or early May. - How expensive are each of these tracks (i.e. NJMP or Mont Tremblant compared to NHMS or Mosport)?
- What is the "break even" at some of these away tracks? How many members would need to run for the club to get their money back for a track like NJMP?

Re: 2011 Schedule?
We tend to emphasize the losses but overall the club has made a profit of around $20k this year and we are in VERY good cash position. We even made money on Watkins Glen! Did I hear someone say VIR? (joke)chaos4NH wrote:Just a couple of comments:

I am pretty sure that COM will see some non regular Canucks showing up for the Mosport event.
While we all enjoy LCMT, Mosport is a big draw for us locally.
I will see you guys at MIR and WGI!
