Thanks StephenAlpha !

Any idea how to ping Will besides email or this forum? I'd prefer instructing. I really enjoy it.

I did apply to become an instructor last year and Will seemed quite happy with my application, but apparently there's a waiting list.....but Will did ask me to instruct at LRP this spring. VERY UNFORTUNATE for me, I was in India that week =/

I was hoping to get a 2nd chance at instructing at NHMS....I just need to get a hold of Will. Maybe I should call Les's shop

Hhhhhmmmm. COM hasn't run at LRP for 2 years now, and has no dates scheduled there for the immediate future. Perhaps it was Monticello?

I heard from a few people that directed me to this thread. Each giving me a heads-up as they thought it poor taste that someone posted my personal email address on the forums. I'd have to agree. Please edit that out. It is not that I do not want to be contacted, but it is reasons like this that I receive 50+ pieces of spam to that address each day (how much Viagra, Cialis, and online college "degrees" do these people think I need?).

Just like all of the other club officers, directors, and specialty chiefs, my contact information listed on our main website's Officer/Chief Directory.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have an urgent personal email to which I must respond. It appears that a Nigerian diplomat is locked-down in the capitol city of Abuja. I may be risking his life in telling you this, but he's barricaded his family in the north-west corner of the city library. I'm his only hope of making it out alive. Minimal investment on my end, with huge payouts. If all goes well, I'll be turning laps in my new Bugatti Veryon 16.4 at NHMS in July. Needless to say, Mr. Nigerian diplomat is well on his way to becoming a COM instructor.

Sorry for posting your email address. I didn't realize people were that sensitive about their email addresses.

Sorry, you're right it was Monticello. I think it was on April 20th or so, when I was at VIR.

I don't understand why all of this is so political. Most clubs are very excited to have new instructors, especially in this economy.

Instructors don't pay an entry fee (except for time trials) so how does that benefit a club economically if they already have sufficient instructors to cover students?

Is every instructor needed at every event? I suppose it does not add to the operating cost of the event, and extras would bring relief to the ones in attendance so they could get more track time.

Hi Matt,

There are no politics or personalities involved. I frequently hear from non-COM instructors who inquire about instructing at our events. I also receive a fair amount of questions and ultimately applications from licensed COM drivers who are interested in instructing. Just because someone is qualified, does not mean that we (I) automatically welcome them into the instructor pool. In years past, COM had some issues with "too many" instructors and not enough students at events. This grew into some animosity from those who were paying to attend the event, especially licensed drivers, and noticed that there were instructors who did not have students. As usual, the perception was a bit worse than reality, but there was an underlying issue. Previous chief instructors did a great job at resolving this issue, and I as Chief Instructor (and as a result the club) continue the program. It works. It also helps preserve the culture of our club, as we often promote from within.

Instructors with other clubs are often shocked to hear that we are not desperate for instructors, as other organizations often scramble for instructors at the last-minute. Sometimes, but not often, this happens to us too. Such was the case at our Monticello event, where we had an unprecedented amount of student registrations, many of them last-minute. This is why I reached out to you through our mutual friend, who happened to be at the track with you the day he called me for some car help.

I've met you a couple of times, at an event and board meetings. From what I know, you seem like a nice guy and have volunteered to help the club in the past (for example, when you tallied votes for our 2010 elections). We even have a mutual friend or two. If politics or personalities were involved, they would have only helped you.

Of course you are welcome to join us at events as a licensed driver until you are confirmed as an instructor. It is not that I don't want you as an instructor, your number just hasn't been pulled yet, that's all.

Contact me at the chief instructor email address with questions. Concerning posting my personal email address, the reason not to do that is to keep spam-bots from capturing it. Email addresses should never be posted on forums or websites, as there are may bots scanning the 'net for email addresses to add to their spam lists. That, at least, is my understanding.

Cheers,

Will
