Classification for '83 rx7

Post by ryanthieme » Sun Mar 19, 2006 12:58 pm

So my father has finally relented and is donating his '83 RX7 to be used for track duty. I'm going through the rules and see that SSA lists the RX7 IRS and SSB has the RX7. Is IRS to denote independent rear suspension or something different? I'm not finding the reference for any model RX7 regardless of generation with those letters and this was all I could think of.

The plan is to mostly do suspension and brake work once we get the car running (it's been sitting for a few years in his garage) but the interior has a ton of mold and mildew. Removing all the carpeting and the door panels, though ideal for our purpose, appears to move it out of ST and into SP, correct? Would replacing both seats with race seats also cause a move to SP?

Thanks,

~ryan

Yes, the IRS is the 86 and all later RX-. Your 83 is the "RX7" in the SSB category

Race seats are ok for st as well as removing rear seats (if it's a 2+2) and rear moldy carpets. Door panels must be retained unless they need to be removed for door bars. Used door panels are all over the place Ebay or

Sounds like a cool project.
