Winter blahs? Come play at Team O'Neil Rally School

Post by jeffw » Sun Dec 20, 2009 7:48 pm

The Audi Club will be running 3 2-day winter driving schools at Team O'Neil Rally School in 2010. Each school features classroom time, exercises and ends with 2 time-trial runs.

The winter schools are a great way to improve car control skills in a very safe environment.

Team O'Neil normally charges $395 for a 1-day school, but because the Audi Club is a non-profit organization with volunteer instructors, you can come enjoy the same facility for two days at half of Team O'Neil's normal fee.

The dates for the schools are January 23-24, February 6-7 and February 27-28. Registration is open now at: http://naaclub.motorsportreg.com/

COM instructors are welcome to come instruct (just get in touch with me so I can help you register if you haven't instructed with us before).

I can't find where I reads it,but they seem to allow almost anything to run as long as it is equipped with a tire that has the "snowflake" designation on the sidewall. Don't know if that is for all vehicles or just the 2wd ones. I read it somewhere but can't find it again... :?

Any car. Any truck. Pretty much anything :-)

AWD cars are ok with all-season tires, 2wd cars need snow tires on the drive wheels (at a minimum). Snows all the way around are ideal....

We've conned several unattached women from work and from our clients to come up for the Feb 28 weekend...Should be a rock, as well as cool (cold) driving opportunities.

I'm running the totally-pedestrian Mercury Sable. This should be classic, But, it will be a damn site warmer than open cockpit!

It's alot of fun; I've gone to a one day winter safety school a few years back with the local Subaru club.

Couple of recommendations:
1. Go with a car equipped with snow tires. If you don't have them, see if you can use a fellow participants vehicle.
2. Dress very very warm, you are in/out of cars alot, sometimes standing outside.

Having a warm clothing is a good idea, but the way we run our schools participants are in their car or someone else's car almost all of the time. Once you're in the car, being able to shed layers is good!

That is how we did it as well, with some classroom time too. When I went the large room over the garage (well the garage) wasn't even built! It works out well. I should have said bring layers cause temps/wind can be tough,if you are attentive your time outside exposed to weather will be minimal.

I wish I could go but all funds must go towards car prep and seat time for spring/summer! How do I tell the wife the trip to cancun sounds great but I'd rather spend the money on the miata and track time for me! Humm..
