Mine is attached to the roll cage by the left door jam using metal collars to prevent the straps from sliding down. It then wraps around my aluminum seat and goes through the hole previously occupied by the hazard switch in the center of the dash (99 Miata) where it is anchored to the factory (I think) cross member behind the dash. I don't have photos online but if you give me your email I'll send you a few shots.
You can see it going into the dash in some of these videos. Note that I didn't use the wracheting part that typically comes with these straps. It was too bulky and placed the meat of the netting too far back. Be sure to take some time while mounting it to ensure that the top strap passes through the centerline of your helmet or it could break your neck.
