NHMS Event Schedule / Format
I was curious how the events were set up.
I've been to a few HPDE's and they all vary a bit.
I noticed that the 2-day NHMS has a time trial (upon approval) the 2nd day, which is something I'm new to.
I take it the 1st day is 3-5 sessions of ~20 min. track time with an instructor.
What would the format be for the 2nd day? 1-3 cars on the track, separated by 30 second intervals or something... maybe 1 full lap and back into the pits? How many timed laps do you get? Any 'open' track time the 2nd day as well?
Just trying to get some more details on the event before I sign-up.
Thanks for the information.

Re: NHMS Event Schedule / Format
First day each group gets 4 20 min (give or take) sessions, and instructors ride with students.
Second day, each group get 2 20 min practice sessions, after lunch time trial with cars grouped into 4 with similar performance on track. then open track follows time trail with every one on track. Open track is often lightly attended.

Just to add to Jonathan's description, the time trial itself consists of three full timed laps.

Re: NHMS Event Schedule / Format
Just wanted to add another piece of (relevant) information:
If you are a student (I did not see you at the roster with the names or cars on your forum list) your will be learning to drive the dry line first regardless of weather condition. As the day evolves it will then be the instructor's decision to migrate you to the "wet" line if and when applicable.
Hope this helps.

One other thing you should be aware of, since this will be your first time with us. In order to participate in the time trials, you must be signed off as "safe to solo" by your instructor. If, as you indicate, you have other DE experience, there's a good chance you can get signed off, but it's not guaranteed. If you sign up for both days but can't do the time trials on the second day and decide not to run that day, you can get a partial refund of your entrance fees. Email/phone the registrar if you have questions, and do check out the rule book on the web site.
Welcome to the club - I'm sure you'll enjoy the experience immensely and learn a lot!

Yet another tidbit:
The time trial (Solo I) has a warm up lap before the clock starts. Less than a half lap cool down. The best lap of your three counts against others in you class, not necessarily the people in your same time trial run. And trophies! People spend thousands to persue these trophies. They must be greatly coveted.
Seriously, in COM, it is all about the fast lap. Many HPDEs prohibit stopwatches. We insist on it. That affects the school as well. All of the instructors not only know how to drive fast safely but they know how to get a competitive lap time. Many are also SCCA racers.

As a new member you are eligible to receive a $100 rebate off your first event as well as nice parting gifts (usually a dash plaque) just for playing w/ us. This is in addition to the wonderful trophies and other prizes showered upon the TT winners (handsome trophy, champagne, picture w/ gorgeous models, interview in the DRIFT, group hug, etc) FF
