going in for surgery

Post by DanB » Sat Aug 23, 2008 12:42 pm

Hi all.
About a month ago a smallish lesion on the lower right side of my tongue was biopsied and lo and behold it is squamous cell carcinoma (i.e., cancer). Subsequent PET/CT and MRI show that there may be a lymph node involved as well.

Long/short, I'm going in for surgery at Dana-Farber this Tuesday morning (edit: surgery will actually be at Brigham & Women's) for resection of the tumor in my tongue and possible reconstruction, and also a neck dissection to remove my right-side neck lymph nodes.

I have the utmost confidence in my doctors, but any prayers/wishes/thoughts/good-vibes you can send my way will be GREATLY appreciated!

Since I only see most of you at the track, I figure this would be a good place to inform you. Feel free to transmit the info to any of the COM crew who might not frequent the forum.

Thanks a lot, and I'll post again in a few days to let you know how it's going.

Dan Baldwin

Hey Dan,

Best of luck to you on your surgery and recovery. My mom was getting her treatments at Dana Farber as well. Rest assured that you are in the best place possible in the world for cancer treatment. You will see what I mean when you get in there. Their people really care, and you are not just a number. Wish you the best!

Good luck Dan. My nephew had all his treatments through Dana Carvey & the Jimmy Fund - he's been cancer-free for four years now.

See you back on the track soon!
