Insurance for Driving Events?

It is my understanding that WSIB looked specifically at the COMSCC.org website and determined that we would be covered for the track sessions that are NOT time-trial related. Like Anna's offering, they also cover our time at Canadian tracks.

Be careful. I remember Stuart Greene (sp?) going through this when I was a newbie ('99 -- '00). The insurance you are referring to would cover you as long as you do not compete in the time trial. It's not like you can drive both days (including the time trial) and have coverage for the practice sessions only. They would consider the practice sessions as practicing for a timed event, and you would not be covered. That is why Stu stopped competing (to my best recollection).

Good point. I will be sure to investigate this if practice for timed sessions is covered before I buy any of these policies.

Update - I got a reply from WSIB on the issue of what sessions will be covered if I run the time-trials. The reply from WSIB rep Jean DeWitt was "You would be covered for a loss, as long as it is not during a “timed eventâ€

Update 2: The insurance company Anna represents will also cover all sessions of the event except for the time-trials. Being scheduled to participate in the time-trial will not jeopardize your coverage for the other sessions.

It looks like we at COM could use either provider and be covered for our events (minus our 3 time-trial laps).

Hi Anna,
I read the DE Coverage policy terms PDF that you sent me and I am still uncomfortable with the exclusion on timed events.

Section I, Part B, Number 6: We will not pay for any loss for a vehicle involved in any timed events or competitive racing.

You have already spoken to this exclusion before, but what I want to know is the following. COMSCC.org events are about 8 sessions long with the last session being the time-trial competition. If I participate in the time-trial/8th-session, will that invalidate my coverage for ALL other 7 sessions too? I can imagine the insurance company saying that the earlier sessions were "practice for the time-trial" and thus they will not cover them.

The best-case scenario for me is that I can participate in all 8 sessions including the time-trial and would only be without coverage during time-trial session.

Hi,
The intent is to exclude coverage for timed events and racing. Therefore, in the situation you describe, events 1-7 would be no problem (as long as they weren't timed or competitive events), but coverage for Event # 8 would definitely be excluded.

I got my quote from Dan today. $17,500 stated value on the MS3 with a premium of $1000 for one year. I asked him to correct a couple of items (it stated events in the US, I asked for them to rewrite for events in the US and Canada). It will cover everything except the 3 time trial laps.

i am little concerned that she had the wrong idea of "8th event". it almost sounds like she thinks the 8th event is a different day than and of the other "events"

I got my quote from Dan today. $17,500 stated value on the MS3 with a premium of $1000 for one year. I asked him to correct a couple of items (it stated events in the US, I asked for them to rewrite for events in the US and Canada). It will cover everything except the 3 time trial laps.

Hummm.... My car is apparised (as vintage) at $10K and for driving less than 2,500 miles/year my insurance is a mere $109...
So in our events it would be covered except the 3-4 laps during TT.
I wonder if there any deductibles than would lower the $1K premium further?

Yes and I was there (looked like a COM instructor reunion there, eh!) and once the turbo kicked in when he passed me on the mian straight he instantly disappeared. That thing was F-A-S-T!

I talked to both of the insurers and I think they understood the situation. The versions of the information I posted here have been shortened, so maybe that is why my info sounds sketchy. I have enough confirmation in writing (email) to make me happy.

That said, anyone purchasing this insurance would be wise to ask the question themselves!

I got my quotes redone for my second car only (stated value $27,500) and was surprised at the differences.

Dan's quote stayed the same (!) at $1000. Anna's quote went from ~$880 to ~$1100, though she was able to drop it down to ~$1030 when I asked her to.
