HELP!!!! ANY IDEAS!!!!
HELP!!!! ANY IDEAS!!!!
I just started my engine to run it for a little while , and I have run into a problem. On startup, my oil pressure was around 80 psi. This is where it has been since new. Never had any problems. I let it run for 20 minutes or so and got it good and hot. it was just idleing for awhile. Then I reved it up a bit and the o-ring blew out of the oil filter and oil went everywhere. I am running AMSOIL 20-50 synthetic oil, and nothing has changed since last year. I looked at the filter and the o-ring is fully extruded out the side of the filter. It seems to point to very high oil pressure, but I have no idea what could cause this since this is the same setup from last year! Is it possible for the oil pressure relief valev to go bad ???? HELP!!! NEED HELP QUICK>>..

Joel, seems like something is missing from the equation here. The oil and the filter are left-overs from last year? Could the filter gasket have been exposed to a lot of heat from the headers and made it brittle? I would try another high quality filter (Napa Gold/Wix) and maybe a little thinner oil for the test.

20w-50???? WOW that is some THICK oil. Start-up wear might not be happy.
What is the recommended oil by the engine builder and what is the recommended oil pressure at operating temp? i have done some testing and sent in for lab analysis in the Ferrari quite a few times and 0w-40 was good and German Castrol 0w-30 (more like 0w-37 as measured) was preferred.
But anywho, could just be a bad batch of filters. UFI had an entire bad batch (1000's) many years ago. Change brands, try again.

well...I believe that I found the problem
I discovered that the aluminum piece that the oil filer screws onto was broken into two pieces. This piece is supposed to have a spring loaded relief valve in it, so that it can bypass the oil filter under high pressure. The stupid moron who I bought the block from have removed the relieve valve and plugged it! So there was no relief valve. Apparently I was very lucky last year that this never happened. But I am guessing that it was probably alright to handle it until the part broke in half due to the high pressure. Once it broke, the oil pressure must have not been contained and it must have made its way over to be able to push out the seal. Luckily, I saved my old block from last year, and I was able to find the stock unaltered piece and put it in. So I am keeping my fingers crossed! It should be okay now...hopefully.

Let the engine get it all nice and wamred up and we get nice and constant oil pressure.
M Little Italian Lady here loves high viscosity.
Funny thing is you'd want the car not to start up right away as to build sokme oil in the engine. Unbeliveable lasts starts it ran right awy so I had to shut it off and start over.
