Online registration site

Post by boltonite » Mon Oct 29, 2007 7:09 am

An online registration site was presented at the recent board meeting. A working version of the site is at this URL:

http://carclub.cainc.com

A few caveats:

1. The site is NOT live -- registrations you submit are bogus, accounts or profiles you create may be deleted.

2. But the link to Pay-by-Check is real: if you cut a check, it will be live.

3. The dates and fees for the annual banquet are not real.

With a HUGE thanks to Fred, this is the second step the club has taken to move to actual online registration, where club officers can all have access to, and manage the same set of data. For those of you who did not attend last years banquet, I did a presentation which described the potential problems which were present in the previous system. The biggest issue was that there were multiple versions of the same set of registration data. The treasurer has one version, the registrar has one, and the chief instructor managed another. Because of the constant state of flux that exists in registration data, (due to people changing cars, dual driving, cancelations, etc.), then all the versions of the data were usually out of sync.
Freds efforts here will ensure that we will all be working with the exact same information. Less mistakes will be made, and life will be easier for all the organizers.
I truly hope everyone gets behind this, because this will benefit the club and the club volunteers. If anyone is interested in a copy of the power point presentation from last year, I can send it along. It also highlighted the first steps to automation that were set into motion by Raj. At the time, I was calling it "Rajistration", but now I'm torn. Should we be callling it "Fredristration"?

I like it. The front end looks straight forward and easy to use. I have been using Motorsportreg for all the SVTOA events, and have found it to be very convenient, though I have found at times that the software was a little confusing to use when trying to make changes to the fee structure, or to deal with cancellations/refunds..

I hope something like this works out for the club. It just makes life easier. :)

Looks great! (And I like "Fergustration"!) Just one thing, and I'm sure this will be addressed before it goes live - the registration site needs to know whether the person registering is an instructor or not.

Hey guys, I know this has been discussed (and nixxed) before, but making any payment from Canada is a real pain because it entails a trip to the bank and an extra $10-12 charge for money order/conversion.

Still no hope for PayPal or VISA? (hint! hint!)
