Ice racing used to be a regular mid winter event for COM, remember it fondly. I remember something about the lake didn't freeze, a wonderful huge lamb roast crusted in black pepper and something about a great deal of alcohol...

Re: Making a billet crankshaft
That looks like one expensive machine. I think what I'll land up with is just a robot sitting in my backyard under a tree with a billet and a file. I wonder how good the result is. It's funny the way the door opens behind the stock, a couple of times I expected to see a human arm to reach out and ha...

Re: A locost style track car, Car9
Hey Marcus! so this is where you've been posting Geez, obviously not enough - sorry it took so long to see this. My frame is mostly welded now. I'm pushing on a project for an open source ECU box right now, so a slight delay on the car. Do we have any electronics guys on the forum? I've posted a pi...

There are a lot of 180 turns on that track, does anyone think it will be less interesting because of that?

Re: A locost style track car, Car9
Baby got back. My friend Tom was getting ready to bolt up the rear suspension and I decided to do some more checking on the control arm design. Long story short I landed up spending two weeks doing a redesign on the lower arm to increase margins. Lots of modeling different approaches and trying to g...

Re: A locost style track car, Car9
Well with Pat's parts it appeared it would be a good idea to redo the bottom of the dash hoop. It took me awhile to get enough resolve to cut out the previous work for the dash area and install a new bottom tube but here it is. I worked out a way to bulge that bottom tube back and work it into the d...

Re: Palmer
The catch fences are installed horizontally around the bottom of the track and extend outwards a hundred feet or so. They should catch everything.

Re: A locost style track car, Car9
I redid the work from a couple years ago on the mechanical modeling of Car9. Things tend to drift over time and with actual reality so this was an attempt to get things to line up again. Also I was watching my kids basketball game and each part of the team only plays half the time. :) This time thru...

Re: what the h???
The security on Macs has always been much better. It runs Unix under the hood and it is much more stable and reliable. When I worked at Digital I know the Federal Reserve system was running on their Unix and the filesystem I worked on. They told me it would be a "national disaster" if the ...

Re: A locost style track car, Car9
Pat that sump would be a good choice for my car at 7 inches. That's about how low I can put the motor without notching the frame at the cross tube under the dash. It might make sense to do that anyway, the motor is a good bit forward of where a Cobra has it. I was wondering about the weight balance,...

Re: A locost style track car, Car9
The funny thing about getting stuck was how instantly I was transported back to my childhood. It wasn't that hard to get out, I think I just had to turn my head a bit. Big thanks to Pat McMahon for lending me a T5 core, a stock SBF oil pan and taking the time to talk with me. It's really helped me f...

Re: Need a Ford 5.0 pushrod motor and a T5...
I read up on the toploaders and they seem like nice units. They weigh twice as much or more than a T5, soI think I will go with the lighter unit. A T5 weighs about 75 lbs. and you can get heavy duty cases for them that are lighter ( magnesium ). They are not rated for a lot of torque but I won't be ...

OK, I need schooling on the older transmissions. I remember something from the seventies called "munchies" are they the same thing? So I assume all the older traditional boxes are 4 speed, they can take a lot of torque and I think they are also what fits parts like Tilton rear starter moun...
