Re: Fine pucker moments..

Man we'd love to see your BMW at a hillclimb, for sure. There's one this weekend at Mt. Ascutney, full season schedule is here . Biggest pucker moment for me was actually watching the action in front of me. At my first COMSCC event at Calabogie in 2007, Butch's Blazer turned into turn 15, the Spoon,...

Re: Autocross on the 24&25 in NH

Highly recommend this event at the Storyland amusement park parking lot in Glen, NH. Great autox course and a very well-run event. Not as much seat time as a COM weekend, of course, but great location, great club, and a lot of fun. A big (10+?) contingent is planning on coming over from the SCCV for...

Re: WTB: 17x8 wheels, 114.3x5

Thanks for the leads, guys. Alex, that's a good deal on those Volks but I'm already good on track tires.

I've got a line on a set of Evo 8 Enkeis (not the lightest wheels but I know they'll fit well and are decent quality) for $450 shipped so I think I'm going to go that route.

WTB: 17x8 wheels, 114.3x5

Need a second set of wheels for summer daily driving to go with my track/event only wheels. Can't really drive the RA-1s throughout the summer... Pretty much need anything decent, looks aren't critical, that's 17 x 8 or 17 x 8.5, 5-lug with a 114.3 spread, with an offset between 32-40 ideally. Later...

Fun on the Ice

A few of us VT COM folks finally got out on the ice the last few weekends for some low traction, high grin-factor laps. Much fun was had by all except for a poor high school kid who went out with his buddies all by themselves last Monday after our two-day event, using the track we'd plowed, and drov...

Bump! Make me an offer on these, guys! I know there are COM members who run this tire size. Brand new R888s, big discount, no shipping costs.

R888s, 235/40R17, brand new set, $650 (price drop)

Brand new, stickers, never-mounted full-depth tread set of R888s, 235/40R17. They were on back order forever and of course they arrived right after Tremblant. In the meantime I'd sourced RA-1s so I won't need this set for a while and I'd rather not store them. $650 obo picked up near Burlingt...

There are a lot of crashes but hey I got rear ended at a COM event and I have yet to damage my car at a hillclimb. :^o (Well, only if you don't consider tires or gearboxes part of your car!) Just kidding. Yes, more than 2 runs per day should definitely be the norm. I believe Ascutney I this year it...

Will definitely put in another plug for NEHA events. I've run three so far and I'm very hooked on driving up closed, narrow mtn. roads as fast as my sanity and skill will let me. Next up is Burke Mtn. on August 23-24, Mt. Ascutney (very close to MA!) Sept. 13-14, and last Mt. Philo Oct. 25-26. (Yes,...

Hey, don't forget your awesome instructor risking life and limb. Shocked You're quite right. Many thanks for all the instruction and of course for not freaking out. ;-) The ride along in your Miata was one the highlights of the weekend for me, though. Internal Mental Dialogue: "It's not going ...

Thanks for all the recommendations. The Porterfield R4Es worked out incredibly well at Calabogie. No fade even after :30 minute sessions. Maybe not quite as much initial bite as the Ferodos I tried last year, but very consistent, very quick to come up to temperature (1, maybe 2 hard stops and they w...

Lots of good info. out there. After reading this discussion as well as some more input from folks that have tracked these heavy mitsus, I'm back to Porterfield R4E (~$190) vs. Hawk Blues (~$155). Hawks are harder on rotors when they're cold, I get that, but appear to be a well-proven track pads with...

Thanks for the very useful replies, folks. I may give the Carbotech XP12s a try with Motul fluid. Change and trying out proven stuff is a good thing. Cy, I doubt I can afford the kind of coin you should get for that Stoptech kit when you do sell it. I'd go ahead and list it on the GVR4 board. When I...

Brake pad recommendations- heavy car, small brakes

Anyone else who is in a similar situation: a 3000+ lb. car, and ~11" diameter front brakes? :? I'm only a month or so away from going through with a front brake rotor/caliper upgrade to a 13.5" or so diameter front rotor, but prior to altering my overall front/rear brake bias and opening u...

The slower ratio might be fine on the track, but Dave's Miata is a pretty competent CSP autox ride, too. I say stick to ST4, Dave, and leave the rack as is. SPB is pretty much a lost cause for an old ride like mine, as is SM in autox, but I like my car and don't really care too much about class resu...
