ST4 and other 1.6 Miata guys Dyno #'s

Post by Georgethefierce » Tue Dec 26, 2006 4:32 pm

If you've had your car dyno'd what did it put down?

it would be helpful if you could name the type of Dyno and if the numbers were corrected or not

thanks

Miata numbers

Post by Flatout Motorsports » Tue Dec 26, 2006 5:50 pm

I PM'd Jason to see if these would be relevant, he said sure...

All done on a DynoJet corrected. (New England Dyno; Douglas, MA)

Stock 1.6's with cone filter, lightweight Mobil 1, OEM manifold and Springfield Dyno exhausts - with a tuned AFM - all go around 108-110 at the wheels, 99-100 ft/lbs.

"Pro" 1.6 SM motors with all the legal tricks and a tuned AFM go around 116-120 at the wheels, 105 ft/lbs.

SCCA IT-legal 1.6's built to the max go around 125 at the wheels, 108 ft/lbs.

My dead-nuts legal IT 1.8 has run a best of 133 at the wheels, 121 ft/lbs. Progammable FI should bring that to about 136-138whp this winter.

Edit - these are not industry marketing numbers - these are our numbers.

Wow, I would kill for numbers like that!

102 at the wheels @ NE dyno about a year ago.

I believe torque was at ~98 lb-ft.

Stock engine, aftermarket intake, header, exhaust.

Will,

I am betting there is 3-5whp in AFM tuning left in your car. Nick is the man on that stuff. If you want me to let you know when mine hits the dyno for the ECU, we can get you in on it.

I know you asked for ST4... and it seems everyone is throwing just about every 4 cyl on here. So here it goes...

92 Honda Civic Si. Full ST engine trim: CAI, DC 4-1 header, SMSP cat, Bosal cat-back, UR street pulley, Mobil 1 5w-30.

122.3 whp w/ 92 pump on a Mustang MD 1750 dyno (Red shift motor sports)

that was a year ago, probably less now after all my COM abuse.

Well, the motor DID, but not in my car.

Not sure why, but my dyno results were down compared to the dyno plot from when the engine was in Don's car. My guess is that it has something to do with the different intake/header/exhaust/cat and difference in parasitic loss between the two cars.

While my peak numbers weren't as good, I had better low-end torque (~7-8 lb-ft) up to about 4500RPMs, where the two curves started to match. I believe the backpressure from the catalytic converter and longer intake tract setup in my car helped the lower-end numbers.

These pulls were done at the same dyno as Don's (NE Dyno/Douglas Dyno). In fact, as we were leaving the dyno early last year, I believe the FlatOut crew was arriving with a batch of cars.

Took a look at the dyno results last night, and I was wrong. We started at 102 and finished with the strongest ST/IT legal pull of 104hp. We did get up to 106 hp, but that was with an RX7 flow meter, which was only on the car during dyno testing. Not legal for ST or IT.

Numbers are honest!

Wait a minute - reading between the lines - it seems that both Don and Jim have either sold or are selling their Miatas. That's crazy! Those cars are the poster-children of what a beatifully kept Miata should look like! I hope they have gone to COM members. Either way, best of luck with the new rides, gents!

Turbo should have been standard on the Miata, 100hp is a joke.

Don't leave us hanging Don. Are you really going back to American Iron? Details, we want details.

This guy is fitting right into COM... Did you know that COM also stands for Club of (NA) Miatas?
