Cracked glass & tech?

While lapping at Tremblant a Miata put a wheel off and spun in front of me, kicking up a rock that cracked my windshield. (names withheld to protect the innocent)<br>

The crack is about 3.5" long starting from the base of the glass on the drivers side. It's not in my line of sight and it's only the outer layer that is cracked. <br>
Can this pass tech?<br>

I had plans to remove the windshield to take care of some cowl rust over the winter and I really don't want to have to replace it before then.<br>
<br>
**also. I plan to drill a small hole at the end of the crack in an attempt to stop it from spreading. Any reason why I shouldn't.<br>

You can have it repaired very cheaply at a glass place. I had a chip right in my vision on my BMW and they fixed it invisibly in 15 minutes for $35.

I'm glad I wasn't driving when the windshield was cracked !<br>
