Watkins Glen: Sept 10-11, 2018 Event Info

Post by dinoracer » Mon Sep 03, 2018 6:48 pm

Good afternoon
Here is the advance information for our event at Watkins Glen this year.

- There will be NO ENTRY to the track on Sunday night for anyone. This is a hard rule. Sorry. Gate opens on Monday at 6:00AM. Camping is allowed on Monday night.

- A GUEST LIST (for family, crew members, etc.) must be provided to the track ONLY by our registrar 3 days before we arrive. Please contact the registrar (Mark Swinehart at comregistrar@comcast.net) and provide him the names of EVERYONE in your party. If you have NOT notified Mark of those attending, they will not be allowed entry. You MUST get that list to the registrar no later than 9/6/18.

- We WILL be allowed to drop off trailers (car trailers, tire trailers whatever) on Sunday in the lot at the top of the hill. As you are coming up Rte. 16 from town, DO NOT enter at the first gate you see (gate 2), or the second (gate 3); keep going to the top of hill to what’s actually gate 4a, where the main ticket office and registration building is. I highly recommend you check personally with the staff at the registration office when you arrive, they may direct you to the lot behind this building, or to the lot across the street in the field. This is really at the security staff’s discretion.

- To allow ample time for check-in and registration on Monday morning, members will be allowed to enter the facility at 6:00AM, using Gate 2 (the first one you see coming up the hill from town). Once past the gate, drive up the road and enter the track using the east tunnel on your right. Inside the track perimeter, proceed to the South Paddock garage area (check the track map here: http://www.marshalsguide.com/index.php/ ... ernational

- Although the potluck dinners have been enjoyed by many, the logistics of getting it together for a 6 hour away event are asking a lot. Therefore, rather than a dinner, we’re asking folks to bring a light snack or appetizer, and maybe an adult beverage to share and join together right after the track goes cold for a toast to our recently lost friends Steve and Laura, and a joyful remembrance of the times we had together with each of them, up front in the garage. This ain’t a wake, it’s a party. Dinner on your own from there.

- Please DO NOT occupy a garage until you have received a confirmation that you have one. If you have not booked a garage, please do not occupy the parking spaces directly in front of them. Leave room for the haulers.

- Traffic flow around the garages is counter clockwise. The speed is VERY SLOW.

- The COM Sports Car Club registration area will be located in the Main Garage, and will open from 700 to 800AM on Monday and Tuesday.

- Tech will be open from 7:05 to 8:05. Tech line starts at garage 30 and winds its way back around the building. Please show up in line with your car ready to be teched- bring your registration sheet, helmet, (and drivers suit if super class), car numbers in place

- The gas pumps will be open with 93, 101 and 112 octane fuel available. Hours are 800AM to 1130AM and 1230 PM to 330PM, there will be a track employee there to assist you.

- The restaurant in the media center will be open both days for the usual sandwiches at a fee.

- Pets must be leashed, and please watch for children. The paddock is a very busy place, so please be aware of your surroundings while walking or driving through.

- Freeze Fame Vdeo will be on site taking pictures and offering them for sale. As with all the other tracks, unmanned aerial systems (drones) are not allowed to operate on the property at any time.

Any questions post them on the app or forum or both please

Thanks Tom

WGI Addendum

The track has been kind enough to allow us a special parade lap after the close of the track on Monday, as a tribute to our friends Laura and Steve. We’ll line up at pit out for release at 5:45 Monday afternoon for an escorted single-file lap around the track in honor of our recently lost friends. No racing ,no passing, no goofing; a respectful pace lap is the intention. To be immediately followed by a toast and party in the garage.

Thanks

Folks - a bit of good news and bad news. The good news... Your Board of Directors has purchased an EXTRA HOUR of track time tomorrow! The bad news... Because of this, registration and tech have both been pushed up a half hour.

Registration opens tomorrow morning at 6:30am and closes at 7:30am sharp. Tech runs from 6:35am to 7:35am.

See you at the track!
Dave
