Is anyone thinking of caravanning to the Glen? If so I would like to tag along.
This is my first trip to the Glen and it would be helpful to follow experienced drivers.
Caravan to the Glen
Re: Caravan to the Glen
Hey Peter,
My first time at the Glen too. I recently first heard mention of the "northern route" driving almost out to Syracuse on 90, then south. Dan D and I are going to drive out Sunday, but we aren't towing so we will probably drive the shorter mileage route by Ithaca.

Re: Caravan to the Glen
FYI, ive drivin and towed both the southern and northern route and find the northern route less of a hassle for both. It has many rest stops reasonably spaced and my last trip found some decent restaurants right off the highway.
Re: Caravan to the Glen
I used to live near the Glen. There are two routes that are best if you live in New England:
1. I-90W to I-88W to I-86W /RT-17 to Horseheads NY then RT 14 N To Mountour Falls/Watkins Glen.
2. I-90w to exit 42 Geneva NY then Rt14 S to Watkins Glen. (Rt 14 S is a straight 55mph 2 lane highway south of Geneva.)
Option 1 has a short-cut between Horseheads NY and The track if interested. Saves around 10-15mins and avoids the village.
I do not recommend the route that goes from Cortland through Ithaca. Shorter mileage/as the crow flies, but many traffic lights and slow zones.
