Classification for Nissan Juke

Post by IanB » Sun Dec 28, 2014 10:22 am

So, I have read through the rules, but haven't found out how my car would classify.
I am a newbie to the track but wanted to use my Nissan Juke and unsure if the car can qualify and be allowed to run?

The research I have done shows that the SCCA will not allow the juke to run in their events due to a height and width ratio requirements. However the car is right on the line, and adjusting the suspension and wheels can put the car well in-line with their regulations.

Wasn't sure what COM had for this requirement, if anything?

Thanks guys.
Ian

Hi Ian:

We have a hillclimb competitior that runs in a Blazer (I think), so chances are good we could accomodate you if you've improved things on the tire and suspension front.

i'll ask our chief steward to take a look here.

Jeff, that is great news. And such a quick response.
I didn't know you had a Hill Climb event, I saw the hill climb.org website but I think that is a different organization.

It's great that COM maybe the only club I need to know about.
Also great that you appear to be about the fun, and the snobbishness is mostly left at the door.

I'll keep track of the thread and please fill me in as I want to register for my 2015 events and get the Calendar worked out.

Hi Ian:

we don't actually run hillclimbs, but Butch is a COM member that also does hillclimbs with other clubs. Check out his videos at https://www.youtube.com/user/butchkingblazer178 to see what a Blazer can do :-)

Looks like another guy trying to make the impossible, possible!
And that car looked awesome :), I am sure it is nothing to do with the drivers skill.

Thanks again for the Link.

Jeff Thanks for the kind words  but you have to remember that it was lowered and so it handled better than anything stock did but with that said I do hope someone can let him know if it is something possible he can run or not.

Ian,

Butch's s10 Blazer was much more than lowered. It had NASCAR underpinnings, widened track, 10" slicks, race modified Chevy small block, and fully stripped interior. About the only thing S10 Blazer on it was the body panels and the part of the chassis. I am not saying you can't make you car work on the track, I'm just stating that Butch put huge amount effort in his car.

Ian - welcome to COMSCC!

The big question is whether or not the Nissan Juke can run with COMSCC at all. I need to connect with Tom Cannon, our Chief of Tech, on this question.

In the meantime...I have added the Nissan Juke to the classification list - keep in mind you won't see the updated list and rules until the 2015 Rulebook is published early next year. However, you can play around with the 2014 classification tool. Using the "Custom" line at the top of the Base Car List in the spreadsheet, use 43.5 points as the base classification (on my sheet it's cell N12).

Excellent news.
Crossing fingers and thanks for the notes on the blazer.
He must love that old truck ;).

Looking forward to the notes from the chief tech.

In the past we have allowed stock height pickup trucks to run. Why would we even question a Juke?

That's me from last week on rt95 on my way to work.

Sounds like I can run then?
