What class?

Post by jrem72 » Fri May 02, 2014 9:05 pm

I have a Mazdaspeed Protege former Grand Am St class race car. I am registered for NHMS and haven't been to a COM event in a number of years. The car has a 2.0 liter turbo and weighs about 2800 lbs. has a stock engine and is classed in STU in SCCA. It is really not competitive in STU. What class does it look like it will be in for COM?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you try the classification spreadsheet?

I get hung up right away as the car is not listed in the Showroom Assessment List?

You should run in a Super class. Take a look at the rule book.

Ok this sounds too simple but.

Weight 2772 with 170 hp = weight to power ratio of 16.31 which is over 16.0 so the car would be in Super D?

That make sense?

Then try the spreadsheet again and use "custom" and start filling in weight, hp etc.
My car last was also not in the list so I "customized" it based on actuals.
As always do present this to the Chief Steward (Nick Fontana) PRIOR to the TT event to make sure you are all set.
Hope this helps
