Good demo on heel and toe with Senna in an NSX
And some shifting and throttle blip techniques too!

OK, I'll bite. That's exactly how my (old school) feet behave on downshifts. But what's up with those blips during acceleration when I'd expect to see smooth throttle application? Is he compensating for some deficiency of that particular car?

Good observation. I was a bit puzzled when I saw that but hey, he was the champ so must work somehow!cuda6666 wrote:OK, I'll bite. That's exactly how my (old school) feet behave on downshifts. If you refer to Jackie Stewart;s video with Top Gear James May me mentions don't accelerate until you are sure you will be committed.
In this case I think he is trying to keep the revs up somehow ad these engines like to be in a higher side of power band?

So, the new driving shoes are loafers?

Back in the day - way before Senna - you wore loafers so that you didn't have to change shoes when moving from the cocktail party to the cockpit.

That's right, loafers has thin soles so you could feel the pedals. Some shoe makers bragged about the type of leather they used to make the soles and "feel like you are barefoot" ...cuda6666 wrote:Back in the day - way before Senna - you wore loafers so that you didn't have to change shoes when moving from the cocktail party to the cockpit.
Too bad if you did a lot of shifting and heel and toes the shoes got all scuffed!

Bally always had very thin soles - you didn't wear them if it was wet out.StephanAlfa wrote:That's right, loafers has thin soles so you could feel the pedals. Some shoe makers bragged about the type of leather they used to make the soles and "feel like you are barefoot" ...

I'm at work so I can't see the video, but this is the internet so I'll offer an opinion anyway!OK, I'll bite. That's exactly how my (old school) feet behave on downshifts. I blip for upshifts because I don't use the clutch. You grab the 'ol shifter and yank, then when you blip the throttle it insta-shifts.
I suppose that's a negative throttle blip...

Blipping on an upshift makes no sense to me - especially if you are not using the clutch. I know this is obvious, but the purpose of a blip on a downshift is to synchronize the rotation speed of the engine with the increased rotation speed of the trasmission input shaft that results from shifting to the next gear down. On an upshift, the oposite situation exists. Therefore, on a clutchless upshift, you would let the engine speed drop while the gearshift is in neutral before engaging the next higher gear.

It's hard to see what's going on here. The only place I think I saw a blip on an upshift is right after he's started away from the pits. You can also hear a crunch and I think he just missed the shift, he beat the syncros.
I thought it notable how he always gives a few blips going in to the apex from the braking zone... He's not leaving anything onthe table.
