NJMP-Lightning 2013 videos

I only got these loaded so fast because I have not left the couch all day today. What an exhausting event! Aside from the 100 degree temps I had a fantastic time however. The heat kept me from racking up as many laps as I would have liked but I managed to avoid any significant dehydration. With a few more horsepower and alot more experiencing under my belt I was able to trim over four seconds off my TT time from two years ago.

Here are my TT laps:

1:17- Lap 1 1:18.67
2:40- Lap 2 1:18.33
3:57- Lap 3 1:18.67

Nice save! I did almost the exact same thing in T5 when I passed on entry and discovered I was running out of road after cresting the turn.

My video is from a camcorder and my "data overlay" is a shift light and a stop watch on my steering wheel. I was "coasting" more than I'd like to admit yet still turned a fast lap thanks to a crazy$ motor and slicks.

Here's mine. Going to have to go through the suspension thoroughly, had a tough time getting the car to stick while turning left.

Here's my TT. 3rd lap being the best at 1:19.5. Let me know where I can improve. I know I am way slow at turn 2-5 and probably could go faster in the light-bulb.

You need a passenger seat in that monster so you can take me or someone else for a ride. Here are my observations:

T1- This is a visually deceptive turn. It looks much slower than it is because the hill hides the second half of the turn. You are braking way too early. The uphill provides so much grip even past the apex that you can carry alot of speed through here. Your line is good, just need more speed. If you aren't barely hanging on and hitting those rumbles at track out then you were too slow.

T2- There is no need to hit this apex. You should be maybe a car width wide of the apex. You want to be wide here to set up a wide entry into T3.

T3- You turn in too early here and are no where near the turn in cone on the left side. Your line is shorter but you are going much slower than you could be on the wider line. If you come in wider here you straighten the turn out. The result of all this is turning T2 and T3 into one big turn that slowly tightens all the way. Your early turn in puts you in the middle of the track for T4 turn in.

T4- Your line from T3 should feed you right up against the right side of the track which gives you the best setup for T4. You are starting your turn in for T4 at almost the middle of the track which prevents you from carrying more speed here.

T5- You need to set yourself up way wider to the left side of the track. The wider you can turn in here the straighter you make the turn. The straighter you make the turn the less the hill crest affects the balance of the car. The result of your early turn in is a very early apex. These things will allow you to carry more speed out of T5.

T7- Braking too early here. Your line is pretty good. You want to apex a bit early here getting back on the throttle before getting to the apex. Use all the rumbles on track out.

T9- You turn in is way too early. You are almost all the way to the inside by the time you pass the turn in cone. You want to start with a wider entry and slowly feed down to the inside of the turn. I try to be all the way down by the time I get to the dirt patch before the rumbles start. From there you want to slowly straighten out as much as possible so that your trajectory takes you to the rumbles on the left side. Then continue that arc back to the left side for T10 apex. You get near the track out rumbles at T9 but your momentum didn't take you there, you just drove that line. Your car has SO much grip in the light bulb, there is alot more speed to be carried through there.

You better bring the Integra to Calabogie ;)

Hey Dave,

Checked your video and I see what you mean about T2-4. I wish I could try that but have to wait till next year. I wanted to do a lead follow but never got the chance on Friday. I don't think I will do a pass seat since I don't want to move around the accusump and ECU but will work on following some of you guys around the track or take a ride in your car. :P

Car def had a mid 1:16 in it so I think with your pointers I can knock off 3 seconds next year!! Just have to stop being a wimp and take those turns with more balls. Thanks for the help!!

The Civic is getting the nod right now for Calabogie, not as fun as the integra but it can hold its own.

That car is so loud it hurt my ears even on Youtube. Quick too, especially when chasing the fluffy white rabbit.

For those who have dash board/exterior camera views, why don't you mount it behind the driver? IMO it's so much more beneficial to have the camera behind the driver for and the video is a lot more enjoyable to watch. No offense but exterior/dashmounted videos are boring!

I definitely agree. No need to have steering input data overlay if you can see the actual steering wheel!

Totally agree. Having video in Dave's car from Tremblant was the first time I ever saw myself with hands on the wheel. It was weird to see that for the first time, but useful.

I agree.

In my car though the camera would be so far back that you would hardly see the track at all, especially with a GoPro. If I could figure out a different mounting setup I would do that.
