Nice to see a vendor stepping up when they find a problem.

Regarding D-Force wheels in general, a few weeks ago I was told by Mario Langsten of Vintage Sports & Racing that BMW Club Racing would be banning their wheels from competition due to a number of catastrophic failures. These failures have been a subject of discussion in the BMW racing community for some time now. I haven't confirmed the ban with BMW Club Racing or any of the racers.

Thanks for the heads up Jeff. I just checked my 15x7 ET30 D-force miata wheels. Mine were purchased and picked up in Mass Sept 2011 (before this recall date). They were used Oct 2011 at NHMS and also May 2012 at NHMS with COM. The rims look fine with no signs of fatigue or cracks.

Yikes. I picked up my second set of D-Force wheels in May of this year.

Sometimes the cheapest item available isn't the best option.

I purchased a set of 15X7s back in April from Phil's Tire. Here is the repsonse I got from D-Force:
David,

Phil’s Tire does buy large quantities of inventory and they did not purchase any of the affected wheels from the bad batch. Therefore your wheels are from the older, better batches and are not part of the problem wheels.

That said, I would like to be sure that you have not had any cracked wheels (that were not due to external forces.) I would certainly want to know if you did.

I hope that helps.

Sincerely,
Tom Merrifield

I was over there last week, and Tom and Baer seem to have a handle on the issue and are being transparent and forthright about it. They know exactly which wheel batch has a bad casting, and the wheels I'm running are not from that batch.

Tom was on top of it, made it completely clear that he would take them back or swap them, no questions asked.

My business is a reseller of some merchandise, and as much as Image 4 does due diligence and exercises care, sometimes a bad product gets past us. Really the only thing you can do is to acknowledge the problem, notify people, make it right, honor peoples' concerns and move on. Hats off to D-Force for doing this in a difficult situation.

Jeff, do they have casting numbers for the bad batch yet, or is the recall still going by the dates mentioned in JeffWs link?
