"Near-Track" services database - interest?

Post by 6PAK72 » Fri Jun 01, 2012 9:24 am

Would anyone have interest in co-developing a database of support resources near tracks? Or, am I missing something I should know about already?

If so, would it be possible and useful to connect it to the COM website?

I would be willing to lead if others would contribute if there is a group value.

For instance, this weekend I needed a valve stem replacement. NTB Auto in Concord did it while Liz waited, for a killer $39. I also needed 4 tires mounted and balanced. Town Fair informed me they do not mount tires they have not sold.

Format would possibly be something along these lines:

TRACK NAME = NHMS

SERVICE = tire services

SUPPLIER = NTB

CONTACT = 603-xxx-xxxx

LOCATION = 12 minutes from track at xxx Louden Road, Concord, NH

NOTES = COMMUNITY INPUT: Charged $39 for valve stem repair

Thoughts? Challenges? Better Ideas?

FWIW, there is a small rinky dink shop that is like 2 minutes from the track that can mount tires for really cheap. You wouldn't normally think to go there, but I tried it once and it worked out just fine. They charged like 20 to mount and balance 2 tires. There was no one there and it took like 10 minutes max. I cant remember the name of the place, but it is on the top of a hill across from an ice cream stand. It is on the right hand side as you head back towards I-93.

Great idea. Somebody started a list years ago, I think it began with a trip to Mosport and it covered local gas stations only. It likely lost momentum, but with today's technology I imagine it could grow into a very useful resource if managed properly.
Jeff, you're the man to launch it! Do it! You'll get lots of contributions. (info, not cash)

Sounds good Jeff.

Perhaps just add a new section to our "Track Information Database", for example, below the "Food & Lodging" section here:

I think it's a great idea.
maybe go one step further and build an iphone / android app.. Integrating to google maps for navigation.. After all, if you need something in a pinch, you're going to take your phone, not your laptop.

I can build a database, but you don't want a graphic designer building an app.... :) :roll:

Perhaps someone with skills and talent.
