Watkins Glen in 06?

Post by rlyons13 » Wed Feb 15, 2006 1:43 pm

Guys,

OK, being down in NJ and being in the hospital last summer getting my insides reconfigured has left me in the dark. Has something happened that has removed Watkins Glen from our schedule, or is there a chance it will be added later?

Posted: Wed Dec 21, 2005 2:40 pm Post subject: WGI and Summit

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This has been a very interesting thread.

Personally, I love WGI, and have been to 6 of our 7 dates there.

I had written 6 paragraphs before I realized that I had only
scratched the surface of what I wanted to say, so here's
the condensed version:

WGI June 28/29 vs. NHIS July 3/4
Logistically, we couldn't run 2 events a week apart. As it is, we
may have to bite the bullet and run 2 events just under 2 weeks
apart to keep Summit Point (in July, on Shenandoah, but a weekend)
on the schedule for 2006, but that's not a done deal yet.

NHIS is the place where the largest majority of new members get
their first experience with COM. Going down to 2 NHIS events
doesn't seem reasonable. We're constantly talking about how to
get new members, and then we say we're ready to cast off one of
the dates that is most likely to draw new members, for a mid-week
away event that people have complaining loudly is exactly what
they don't want.

This doesn't even address the cost issue, where WGI would be
a huge money-loser, and NHIS events help keep those free
dinners coming.

Anyway, WGI is a lost cause for 2006. I held the track off as long
as I could while we talked about it, but they had several groups
lined up waiting to take the date, so it's gone. There might always
be a chance that someone might cancel, but don't hold your breath.

Sorry, that's just the way it went this time.

Scott

I think you need some new shocks. There seems to be a bit of jiggle in your AVI. Looks like it could use a little more damping.

BTW...Kevin can correct me, but Monroe says 1 to 1.5 bounces of a strut when jounced is ok.

I hadn't even noticed we lost WGI this year, DAMNATION!

I'd just as soon NEVER have free dinners (spending $15, $20, whatever is next to nothing compared to other expenses) and lose money on WGI, making up for it elsewhere.

DOH!

Dan, I think most of us agree and would pay more to go to the Glen, but the date conflict was a very real problem that I understand (NHIS event within a week of proposed WGI date)...
I say again, a bunch of us COMers will be going...May is looking like a good month- during the COM vacation.

Do either of these clubs allow open wheel cars?

I'll defer to Tom Cannon, as he is my WGI social director. I thought it was 2 different Mustang-type clubs...yes they allow non-Mustang types.

Scott's refering to some dates I pulled togther and we discussed at the Jan banquet:

Rochester Shelby Club June 5-6 and Aug 21-22 ($ 390/2 days)

SCDA May 1-2 ($ 450/2 days)

PDA May 8-9 , July 17-18 and Sept 18-19 ($495/2 days)

I was planning on hitting one of these, but family finances are being stretched too thin over a number of unexpected situations that have come up, so I'll be sticking with COM events this year.

Not that I plan to make WGI with either of those clubs, but I seem to recall reading that BMW now requires a HANS (or some type of head/neck support device) to attend their events. Not sure if this is a regional club-centric thing or national but it's worth remembering so there are no surprises upon arrival.
