Video - DTM History, The Golden Years

Post by Mick » Mon Nov 23, 2009 11:07 am

I know I'm biased, but in my opinion this is the greatest era in racing history.
The Merc with the cone in the grill is hilarious.

Great racing indeed - thanks. However, there should be a law against songs sung in German - Klingon is more poetic

Childhood dreams! :D That's what a *proper* road racing car looked like when I was a German 10 yr old, keeping a stash of motorsports magazines next to my bed ... !

Thanks!

Dammit, now I want one of these very rare Improved Touring built 190 Cosworth Mercs... I had almost managed to not think about it anymore...

LOL!!! Jawohl!

Halt Stehenbleiben!, that's actually "Koelsch", the local Cologne accent. It is not spoken nor understood anywhere outside Cologne. By the way, saying "Koelsch" in Cologne gets you a local beer in a small glass. There, I just have saved your life should you ever get lost in their famous carnival processions!

Usually, they will keep exchanging the above mentioned small glass with a freshly filled one until you politely indicate you do not wish any more beers. The correct way to do this is to simply fall off your barstool and hit the ground with an audible "thud!".

Sadly, past attempts to import songs with foreign lyrics failed miserably when we bought certain American actors as "singers" :x . Fortunately, he is trying to sing in his Knight Rider outfit, not his Baywatch dress *shudder*.

Great vid! I had to google DTM as I had no idea what it stood for: Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters. Amazing racing. I even noticed a Mustang and a Merkur or two in there battling. Politiely fall off your barstool..HA!

That's the European version of NASCAR.

I love DTM. Where can I find one of those used cars...

Great footage, esp the M3 just barely kissing the wall at the 5:11 mark, those DTM mirrors rock!

They're out there. Prices are in the $100k - $150k range now depending on history

A friend of mine from the E30 M3 forum, who is also a COM member, has an ex Prodrive car that he imported to Pennsylvania and restored.
He was smart enough to buy his before the prices went through the roof. I think he paid ~$45k + import fees

One of your links is broken. It shows a Volvo 242 as a DTM series winner. ;)

That was a really cool video.

Great video Mick. The quality in that vid is much better than most other videos from that time.

It looks by the videos from that time that tires had so much grip, enough to make up for bad suspension. Certainly the best racing.

Now you've done it. Liz's maiden name is Hummel, mit der Umlot. (Irish mother).

I just caught her translating: while laughing her ass off....she'll never settle for a Miata now...
