Thoughts - 2010 Event Schedule
Thoughts - 2010 Event Schedule
I know it's wicked early to bring this up and the fact that I have yet to attended even ONE COM event this year doesn't give me much clout, yet...
I just wanted to voice my opinion that we should try to keep a few away events in 2010, at minimum WGI and MT as in 2009. I am guessing that by the numbers, COM probably lost $ at MT - it would just be shame to loss those track days. And if it's on the schedule, let me be the first register for MT in 2010.
hugs and kisses,
Mickey

I would love to see NJMP added to the schedule too.

Some how we (the members of the club) have to get other clubs involved with COM's away events. Otherwise the club probably will not be able to
keep the events that are losing money.
On the other hand. there is a new track in Monticello NY! Monticello motor club. I have heard they have dates for clubs!

My understanding is that Monticello is just expensive as LRP - but I have not confirmed personally myself. on the other hand, you have an entire NYC , upstate NY, PA and western NE community that could be encouraged to go to Monticello.BonraS wrote:Some how we (the members of the club) have to get other clubs involved with COM's away events. Re: Thoughts - 2010 Event Schedule
COM - I believe - lost $$ because of the time of the year it decided to have the event. In my particlar case, I have been doing the MT event followed by family vacation. This time was in June and the kids were still in school. They were bummed to hear they were not going there this year.
Several members also make this their vacation place and birng their other significant halves (and family) as well.
You may consider having this event when school is out for better attendance.
On the sentimental side, I'd love to see Mosport back but.... maybe 2011?

I believe John Spain mentioned at the last board meeting that counting instructor contributions, we actually did OK at MT.

"Did OK" means we didn't lose as much money as we first though we were going to lose. It was still a loss but thanks in part to the instructor contributions , it wasn't as bad as it could have been.

Re: Thoughts - 2010 Event Schedule
The problem is getting our members to go to the away events. Unfortunately the few that want the away events are not enough to cover the expenses. So how do we change their minds and get people to start thinking about away events?
I vote to ditch MT (too expensive) and bring back Mosport (cheapest track we go to). Start marketing it ASAP to the membership so they can plan ahead. I can also take or leave the Glen, I would rather go to Summit Point or Calabogie.
The home events should look better when Palmer opens up and we can maybe split between NHMS and Palmer.

Watkins Glen is my favorite. Finger Lakes, $50 hotel, hard working guys at NAPA, cheap beer readily available on a main street that served as the front strait, wonderful track, and it's only 5-6 hours from Eastern MA/Southern NH.
Re: Thoughts - 2010 Event Schedule
Though I have done a few events a season for the last several years, this is the first season where I have made the commitment to running the complete COM schedule. If Mosport was on the schedule, I would have gone. I'm planning to run the full schedule next season as well.....wherever it takes me, though I wouldn't mind if it took me to other places more and NHMS less.......but that's just me.

WGI is my favorite track of the few I have driven. If we did two events there per year, that would be great. I think its important to try to offer options outside of NHMS and attract enough non-members to pay the freight for those tracks. I think this year is tough financially, but over the long run, we are generating interest from the smaller clubs to provide members and paying racers, and should be able to fill out many dates at the more distant tracks in the future.

Although I love Mosport (I just raced the SCCA North American National), we usually get around 35 people. Even though it is cheap it is too far except for a few COM hard core and we lose money. The Board observes that members vote with their checkbooks.

What is wrong with LRP?.......
Great track since the repave, relatively close by, better than NHMS in my opinion......
Looking forward to the opening of Palmer.....

Re: Thoughts - 2010 Event Schedule
They now charge twice what other tracks charge and give HPDE clubs only half a day- must share the track with their Club.
LRP does not make the SCCA share the track (I'll be racing the SCCA National there next weekend) but the price is $450 so only 141 are going. Money loser.
We used to go.
