The event is on at this time. I know, I said that about this time last year! But with the track being cleared and warmer weather on the out look, let's keep our fingers crossed. I was at the track today, March 17, and observed the plowing of the final bits of snow. The recent weather has hastened things along nicely! Now for the begining of the notes for everyone to pay attention to!
1. The track registration building will NOT be open on Friday evening, April 3d. Registration will open at 630AM on Saturday, April 4th, and close at 800AM. The gate to the track should open at 730AM. I will try to set it up so the tech crew and stewards can enter at 700AM, but that is NOT guaranteed.
2. Registration will be a little crowded, so please have your driver's license, cash or check for garages, etc. ready when you get to the track. If I find out before the event which garages we are in I will post it here. There will likely be quite a few vehicles lined up on Saturday morning, so please be courteous and do not block local traffic.
3. Registration will also be open on Sunday morning from 630AM to 800AM. Note, however the gates will not open until 730, so please leave the left lane (closest to the building) open for those who have preregistered.
4. Proceed to your assigned garage or chosen parking place and prepare your vehicle for Tech Inspection. Read your tech sheet for dos and don'ts.
5. Your assistance will help make Tech Inspection move quickly. Cars will line up for Tech in the "cold pits", to prevent a jam up of people parking and arriving to the garage area. Go to tech where directed by Bill Fitzmaurice and his crew. As always we will traverse the garage area in a clockwise direction. Please sign your tech sheet, place it under a windshield wiper, have your hood unlatched, trunk open and helmet readily available for inspection. Hey, if you don't have windshield wipers, use you imagination, like tape it to your forehead.
6. Pay attention to the announcements and proceed to the drivers meeting at the specified time. There will be a lot of important information at the driver's meeting, so please keep the chatter down and let the others hear the presentation.
7. Track configuration will be Chicane-Chicane.
8. Major complaints that have worn ill feelings for COM: Shouting at the gate workers and not following their instructions. Leaving the track area and using the outside parking lots to bed brakes, adjust suspensions, etc. Children being allowed unattended wandering. Any infractions may result in an individual being asked to leave the event. At our October 2008 event, children were wandering freely about the infield and were observed by the "pond" throwing in rocks, etc. If that happens again, I can assure that the parents, or other responsible parties, will be directed to leave the track. If directed to leave, their attendance at future events will become the decision of the Board of Directors.
At this point in time we are in the good graces of the NHMS Operations Director -meaning we have been given some preferences to obtaining more days for 2009, including 3 weekends.
9. Children under the age of 16 WILL NOT be allowed to use ANY type of wheeled conveyance anywhere in the infield when there are cars on the track, i.e.: from 900AM until 500PM. This is a new track policy for ALL event holders, not just COM. In additon, I ask members to help police the children they see wandering around without adult supervision.
10. The corner workers will be under the joint supervision of Glen from Pro Flaggers, Inc. and COM Operations personnel. The flaggers are all SCCA certified and very good at their job. As in any event , there may be questionable calls made on the track, but be assured we will err on the side of safety. A safe event is the goal. Flags will be addressed at the driver's meeting.
11. The waste fluids building will be open from 1200-1230 and 300-330 each day. Location to be announced at the driver's meeting.
12. Gas pumps will be under the jurisdiction of the Chief Of Operations. Anyone willing to pony up the $9.00 per gallon, please see Sam Webster. If you bring your gas to the track, please do not store it inside the garages. Place the containers outside, next your door or in your trailer.
13. Remember that all "over the wall" personnel must wear protective headgear..There will be a number of bicycle helmets (they meet the approval of the track) in the tech shed building for use when individuals go over the wall to setup and retrieve timing gear.
14. There will be no place at the track to leave your vehicles prior to the track opening at 730AM Saturday morning.
15. Breakfast and Lunch both days will be masterfully catered by our friend Josh with his mobile barbeque set up.
16. Watch this thread for updates as more information becomes available, SEE YOU IN 2 WEEKS!!!!
