NHMS event status?

Post by jadams » Wed Mar 19, 2008 12:02 pm

Can anyone comment on the condition of NHMS at this point? Is there still snow up there? What are the chances of the event not being cancelled due to snow?

Just wondering

The weather here today is wet snow...
The weather for April 7-8 is :dontknow:
but weather gurus say by March 28 (extended forecast - what a joke  ) calls for "Rain / Snow Showers" with temps in the high 40's

Honestly I would not worry about it. If not registered and there is still room, go for it. Get the car ready. If the event is changed for some reason look on the bright side that you will have you car ready for WGI that is just over coupe of weeks after NHMS...

Talked to my buddy in Belmont, NH (about 15 min north of the track) yesterday. He says he has about 2 feet on snow in the yard. :x My buddy near Conway tells me he can see the top of the swing set coming through the snow.

Pray for lots of Sun.

A little birdie just told me that the south oval has 5 feet of solid ice on it right now, and the heavy equipment that the track brought in to attempt to break it up didn't make a dent. So don't get your hopes up about driving in 2 weeks unless summer comes early...

I met with the track operations people today. The go-no go decision will be made sometime on Friday. At best we may still have a go, but with a few wet spots. The track had a tough fight with mother nature. Some roofs on the South garages caved and there was also some damage to the tech inspection area. North garages in good shape and all areas except parts of the track have been plowed. Again, either check back here on Friday night or check the NHMS web site for event status. Please do not call Bette, we need one point of contact, and I, being Chief of Operations, am it. There are more, general, notes about NHMS that will be posted after BOD review. Thanks for your patience and cooperation.

Decision this Friday....I still think it's premature ... today calls for snow but after is minor sleet, some rain and then dry, sunny and in the mid 40's (up to April 3 that is).
I think their decision should be held later... just my 2 cts...

This of course does not account for what NHMS needs to do for their repairs, etc. I hope this is not the issue in their decision making process.

Repairs to the buildings are not part of the issue. Snow and ice are the issue.

5 feet of solid ice. Hmmm. Maybe I'll mount up some studded tires just in case. :D

Nothing a few dump trucks of Ice-melt wouldn't take care of.

According to Sam, ". . . I checked, and Bette won't let us use studded tires!"

My wife just bought a 325 XI that has blizzacks without studs..

I bet that would be a fun car out there.

I am thinking of taking the 13 inch slicks off the FE Formula car and putting the 20 inchers from the Avalanche truck.

Seems odd they would make a decision this Friday - or are they meaning Friday April 4th? I suppose they need to notify track & corner workers.
