New Engine update

Post by jadams » Mon Jul 02, 2007 12:14 pm

At 12:45 a.m on Sunday morning, my new engine fired up for the first time. It took a little while to get some of the details sorted out (had a couple of plug wires backwards), but it finally started up. The bulk of the work is completed at this point, but there are some small things that need to be completed before I test the engine out. I am hoping to be able to attend the open track on the 5th at NHIS, but that it looking pretty tight at this point. I will need some time sort out the programming issues, because the engine doesn't want to idle at all with the new cam. I had to screw the thottle stop screw out to keep the engine running. Right now it is idling at around 1200 rpm. Hopefully I can chnage the program to get it to idle at a more reasonable rpm. But looks like for the most part the new engine is intact and operational.

I am keeping my fingers crossed!

Sounds like you need to update the HP and torque figures in your sig. That's a good thing.

Well......

Post by jadams » Mon Jul 02, 2007 6:46 pm

Not quite yet!!! Now that it is not 2:00 in the morning, I was able to run the engine a bit less cautiously, and I have another problem. I have a horrendous vibration as the rpm's increase so it looks like the flywheel/pressure plate is not properly balanced for the engine!!! So now I need to pull the tranny again, and get the assembly balanced, and re assemble. AHHHHHHGGGGGGGGGHGH
Someone shoot me.

Seriously, good luck with the motor. At least you got to experience warp 9 before the last one went.

J,

Oh man, i feel your pain! Guess the clutch guys did not balance their bits (weird) and the fly guys should have done that too. Did that swap last year and also checked the harmonic balancer (which might get changed when i add the supercharger to the red car). Alas, old harmonic balancers do not age like fine wine :(
Enjoy the Track,
