harbor freight utility trailer

Post by Subw00er » Sun Apr 15, 2007 9:43 pm

I have the 4'x4' trailer with 12" wheels. Has anyone been able to find bearing dust caps for this trailer that have grease fittings? I went to autozone and they had some (1.98" diameter) but they were too small, It looks like I need a hub dust cap with something around 2.305" diameter (This is a link to the stock cap): http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/D ... mber=93833

It just occurred to me that maybe I can just buy some fittings and make my own cap by drilling a hole. Has anyone done this before?

Do you think I'd need the 2328 model (2.328")?

I'm a little concerned about bearing buddies because I believe the tolerances on the HF trailer are not great. One of my hubs leaks grease from the inner seal and spits its onto the rim. Its not a lot, and it looks like only greaset hat is liquid seeps out, so I am fairly certain that a bearing buddy would be a bad idea because all of the oil would just run out quickly. I had used mobil 1 synthetic bearing grease, I think I'll switch to a normal bearing grease next time.

I have a new hub on order - hoping that the problem is just the axle seal. It was only $9!
