How about using the mini rear diff from a subaru forester or the like? I think the newer ones have the same bolt pattern you need too.

i have the wedgelock diff from the winters rear i'm going to use . there are very light 6.3 LBS ,small and the wedgelock types of diff's are one of the best types along with being totaly rebuildable . it's really just the bolt pattern i want to keep so i will only have to get 6 rims 15"x 12" and then the uprights and control arms from a donor car .
as for the rims CO's like circle , bassett , and many others offer them in a 5 on 4.5 , 5 on 4.75 and 5 on 5 . the RX8 has a 4.5 so every thing there will work but the brakes . i may just design and build inboard brakes for the car ????

i do keep thinking and looking at the totaled porsche boxter S i have sitting here thinking i should just build the Diasio using that motor , trans and suspension . i would have to build a totaly new chassis for it though because i would also want the front suspension from a boxter S . the down side is i would have to buy the front suspension because this car was hit real hard in the front and the suspension is real **** up even the rack was spilt in two .

At that point...it becomes a Boxster S with a Diasio body.... :lol:

yep pretty much only with 1500 hours of labor .
then what the hell do you call it ?
the good side is i have so many porsche fuch rims than i know what to do with so it would solve the hole rim problem and bolt pattern .

Sorry I'm late to this party. I don't think you can anything worthwhile from production cars for this project. If you just want fun don't change out the axle. By the time you do the work to convert to IRS and get this right, never mind even doing it in aluminum, you would be unhappy with street car parts.

I'm looking at this for Car9 too, so far I've modeled Ford IRS, Subaru and Miata parts. They all have flaws for this on top of being heavy. One issue is they have a high location for their lower control arms. That means a high roll center or less camber compensation in roll and more trouble mounting them in a car with something like 2" of ground clearance.

How about bolt on hubs from Chevy S10 pickup truck? They have you're bolt pattern. I think the half shafts are available in 1" increment lengths with splines for Porsche / VW CV joints, along with stub axle for those CV to S10 hub. You would need to make the upright from aluminum extrusion and fabricate the wishbones. This is a standard setup for sandrails and fast buggys in california. Try Google for "micro stub axle" or similar.

I think Taylor Racing sells a version of this setup for DSR.

If you wanted to work together on this maybe we could share the same design for your Dasio and Car9. I also found someone recently that teaches at a technical school and he says they look for things like this as student projects. They like this kind of thing because it gives students in different subjects experience working together. So CAD on cumputer, CNC machining, welding etc.

For the frame, I like the way the traditional 5 link IRS has worked for my project. It is a good solution for tube frame cars because it spreads the loads widely and to the correct places on the chassis. You only need one strong plane to attach the rear suspension and diff. The brake and acceleration loads go into the sides of the chassis at the rails.

I'm willing to do computer modeling on the uprights to make sure we're safe and light.

Do FA mostly run 15" rims these days? I think you need to run 13"...

You may need to change your front suspension too when you go to IRS. DId the Dasio have a Panhard rod and how high was it?

the size wheels for the diasio's are 15"
i have the design all finished from the motor to the drive axles and diff .
i need to pull the body off the chassis just to make sure my measurements are right .
because of the front suspension the RX8's rear uprights is a perfect match .
the winters half shafts and inner CV's i have will work good to the diff . when i get the rx8's stub axles i will see what i have to do to mate them to the half shafts .
by using the mazda RX8 uprights and there suspension geometry i can keep the same ride hight and suspension travel i have now with the 4 link set up . i feal no need to redign the wheel at this time . on the all new chassis i'm working on for the car i will be using totalt deferent suspension than what the car has now and will have with the IRS i'm building .
for the new chassis the car will be a center seat car with optimized uprights . i did look thru the taylor catalogs i have they don't have any thing i could really use for this build .
because of the size tubing i will need and the way i would have to mount it to the metal chassis of the front half of the car i'm not going to build it out of aluminum . the side plates for the motor to the diff and drive axles i may build out of it but not the chassis it's self . because of the diasio's chassis was built as a two seater it is much deferent from the single seater chassis out there . so in my design program when i 1st designed it the chassis had way to much flex in it because i was hoping to make the new back half much narrower . but i have now redesigned it and it is now triangulated from the motors side plates to the out sides of the main roll hoop . i then can mount the megan control arms to the side plates and the weight will be just about half of what the back half weight is now .
i won the bid on the rx8 so i now have to go down to NJ and get the car . the motor ,trans and ecu maybe sold to some one that is building a lotus 7 kit car he just wants to stop down and hear it run 1st .
