Re: i just got a new track car
Our prepared classes used to have the P at the end, AP, BP etc. UP doesn't sound so bad.
I think our club is missing the basic point about a car like the Club Ford. It is intended to be inexpensive access to a real driving machine. A big part of this is having a motor which will last a long time. The rules are being setup now to force people to use 10 hour motors.
I'd like to see us find a way to encourage people to drive track cars without having to lay out a great deal of money. It seems a reasonable goal to find a way for people to compete as drivers. Rules based on displacement or number of cylinders force high dollar motors with short life spans.

"By the way, I totally hate the fender-flare rule, but that is a different discussion."
As you may have guessed..I hate it as well..
Marcus..how about a Formula vintage class.bet that would make you smile...

My "Amen" comment was merely to say that the two cars that were involved directly with the thread were all set. I was just thinking it was time to move the discussion to a separate thread. Discussions like this are not a waste of time I did not intend it to sound that way.
David, hope you bring that car to the track! Nate, you guys could drop a 300hp turbo in your sports racer and have a blast!

Sam -
Blast is probably the right word. Or crack, clatter, clatter. Maybe even a crunch or two.

I am fairly familiar with the "crunch or two" myself.nateh wrote:Sam -

Re: i just got a new track car
it is a fun car . the car has been giving me some headaches . the fastest lap i got at NHMS was a 116 .07 it was the 2nd lap in the 1st run of the day so the tires were still cold .then on the 3rd lap the clutch fryed . i started making a new cable clutch set up as not to keep burning out clutches . 4 in one year as way to muck . its not the falt of the car maker that the clutches keep going . the diasio's with the stock yamaha motors don't burn out there clutches . the person that did the install of this gsxr motor realy hacked things up . with a little more work i think the car will be a ftd car .

Re: i just got a new track car
Two weekends ago at Curcuit Mont-Tremblant there were two Radicals (DSR's)running...and I use that term loosely. One was constantly broken down somewhere on track and the other exploded and dumped 5 qts of synthetic oil in turn 3.. Personally,I think motorcycle engines belong in..motorcycles. Granted, all engines are subject to failure, however, the bike engines seem to have a very short life span powering cars. Maybe a Hayabusa engine would last longer? I still think you should stuff that SBC in there...

I agee with Mark; mate that small block chevy you have to a Pontiac G6 6 speed trans, there will be plenty of room in the back of your car with a tranverse mounted engine. That 350 should not be too wild to destroy the G6 tranny, V8 Archie makes a kit to join the two.

Re: i just got a new track car
AAAAAAAAAAAAAA NO ! The SBC is for the porsche 944 soon to be called a 948 . the 948 (944)is a good handling car and with 400 hp it will push the 2300 lb car better than the 148 hp it had with a total price of the swap just over 1200 bucks . i put both motors on the scales the porsche motors weight was 398LBS to the sbc motors weight of 446 LBS . i have some of GT racings fiberglass panels for the car . but when finished weight should be about 2100LBS . as for a motor out of a bike . i see nothing wrong with that and most all the crap i hear is just hear say . 1000cc motor pushing a 900 lbs car is not that much more in weight then some turing bikes . i hear things about the chain drive system too . just becouse you have to do maintenance like lubing the chain that you would not have to do on a lot of other cars .that gets labeled as something that is a problem . as for dumpping oil ? O-please i can name a hell of allot more cars that have done that than the motorcycle powered ones . if most people only know the amount of race cars with bike motors . if i were to do a motor swap in the diasio it would be a mazda RX7 or 8 turbo motor . but it would bring the weight of the car up to what the other new diasio d962r's are 1500 lbs . but i am thinking about is doing a turbo gsxr 1000 motor . i have the extra motor that came with the car . but that puts me out of DSR . not all the radicals just like the diasio's use a bike motors . a busa motor is not a D sport classed car it puts it in C sport . the motor most CSR cars run are a NA 13b mazda motor or a honda B series motors . the busa motor is also not any stronger than the gxsr motor its heaver and only puts out a little more hp than what i have now . the motor that s in the car now dinoed at 163hp and 102 ft of tork . that pushes 900 lbs fine .
